Someone said “Leave Canada” and trust me I tried but it’s a snow day and even my driveway said no. Canada isn’t letting me leave today. 😅❄️

On a serious note, it’s strange how much negativity gets targeted at newcomers especially South Asians. The stereotyping, the assumptions, the generalizations all typed confidently from behind a screen. It’s usually just a small group of people who feel bold online but never want to understand the reality or have an actual conversation.

But the truth is this isn’t how everyone thinks. Most people here are kind, welcoming, respectful and genuinely supportive. And to those people thank you. Thank you for choosing empathy. Thank you for making space for others. Thank you for understanding what it means to start over in a new country.

Canada has its snow days and its comment-section critics but the kindness of real people is what makes it feel like home. 🤍🍁❄️

I went to apply for my kids’ SIN today and the officer casually asked, “Are they both from the same dad?” And listen… my Indian brain froze for a full 10 seconds. 😅

But here’s the thing—this question is actually normal and standard in Canada.
Because families here come in all forms: blended families, co-parenting, step-parents, adoption, guardianship, shared custody… you name it. They ask so they can make sure the right documentation is linked to the right parent or guardian. It’s not meant to judge your life, your marriage, or your parenting.

In India though?
A question like this would be considered deeply personal, uncomfortable, and borderline offensive because of how sensitive topics around marriage, divorce, or parenting are treated culturally. People don’t ask these things openly, especially in government offices.

So here I was—standing at Service Canada—having a cross-cultural glitch in real time. 😅
Different countries, different norms.
Still recovering.
