Rose Garden Productions 2024

Rose Garden Productions 2024 Rose Garden Productions is a Canadian owned independent film and theatre company dedicated to producing original creative pieces in unique and innovative ways.

We seek to tell intense powerful, and authentic stories that deserve to be told. My name is Nicole Anna Lynne Smith. I began Rose Garden Productions in 2020 as an umbrella to house my first creative project, the dramatic short film, Drumbo Road. At the time, I knew nothing about the film making process. I was merely an actress looking for her big break. My acting coach decided to run a 'how to' fi

lm making course where six students would be taught the ins/outs of creating their own short-film during the height of Covid where we all found ourselves in a state of isolation lockdown. These films would run approximately 5 minutes and were all shot on our cell phones. Upon completion, the footage that was shot for our individual films were edited and showcased at various festivals over the past almost five years. I never do anything small and of course I lived on a 150 acre farm with complete freedom to create and oops, after an incredible film shoot, a car accident two weeks later, a brain injury and everything in my life hit a stand still. Until now.

2024 marks the true beginning of Nicole finally getting her s**t together and building up Rose Garden Productions. I am so excited to announce that Drumbo Road is literally a month or so away from full completion and will be submitted to festivals soon thereafter. I am also looking forward to creating new and innovative films and theatrical productions as the years flow by. Thank you to all those whom I have encountered along the way and looking forward to all those I have yet to meet. Never give up on yourself or your dreams

Artist Showcase:

Featuring:
John Dibben

Rose Garden Productions is looking forward to sharing the stage once again with the uber talented and ever charismatic John Dibben who has hopped on board a second time to play the role of Sir John Abbott in the play, Polly’s Island as an official entry in Grand River Arts Festivals’ 10-Minute Play Competition on September 21 at Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant.

A Little Bit on Dibben…

‘It’s always exciting to work on the development of a new show. Thanks to Nicole for allowing me to participate in this venture, and hopefully contribute something to her baby. A graduate of the Ryerson Acting School when it was still called Ryerson. John also studied at the Actors Lab in Toronto with Marrie Mumford and at the HB studios in NY. Mr. Dibben's first professional show was a collective with 25th Street Theatre in Saskatoon. “Don’tcha Know the Northwind and You in my Hair”, which toured across Saskatchewan in 1978. John has worked on stage and screen for over forty years across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. With a Rep company out of LA, Classic Theatre International out of NYC, and John’s own company, (Googie Productions Toronto), producing “George and Gracie”. In the ’90s and early 2000’s John did a handful of MOW and commercials in Toronto. Over a ten-year span John worked sporadically with several actors and writers developing and performing several incarnations of his baby, “George and Gracie”. Culminating in an artistically satisfying tour of the east coast along with a triumphant return to select theatres in Ontario in 2004 when John’s first child was born.

Mr. Dibben has spent the last twenty years doing classics at the Fergus Grand Theatre and working with Paddy Gillard Bentley in Kitchener on various projects for Flush Ink Productions both as an actor and writer and sometimes director. He rounds out his repertoire with three recent short films. “Inland Freaks”, and “That Scottish Play”. Both of which have won awards. His most recent and soon to be released short film is called “Seaside Mirage”. Where Mr. Dibben plays an old man losing touch with reality as he gets older. Quite a stretch for John’

*UPDATED POST*

The play ‘Polly’s Island’ is a reenactment of the true and tragic love story between Christopher Plummer's Aunt Phyllis Abbott and her fiancée Sir William Walter Beatty, as described early in his 2008 autobiography, 'In
Spite of Myself: A Memoir.'

The play is set in 1930's Montreal in the dressing quarters of the family's home at Fort Frontenac that
overlooks Lake Como (through the trees) towards his adopted Aunt Polly's summer home where he spent many summers as a boy with his mother Mary Elisabeth Abbott (Sir John Abbott's daughter,) and her sisters.

The story is told from the perspective of Phyllis and her grandfather Sir John Abbott as they fuddle about getting ready for the wedding while struggling to deal with Phyllis' impending sense of doom that this is all just "too good to be true."

The play was written by Nicole Anna Lynne Smith, as one scene out of a larger full act play to come.

We are incredibly thrilled to perform this piece on September 21st, at the Grand River Arts Festival as part of their annual 10-minute play competition alongside 14 other original works being performed.

We are honoured to announce the following individuals who have come together to tell Phyllis’ story,
