Having a little bit of "fun" during a recent visit to the wintry Cariboo. I had never tried fat biking before, and I also wanted to see if I could self shoot some of the experience with my Mavic Pro (I only lost it in the snow once!).

Finally got to try out this whole fat biking thing a few weeks ago. Figured it would also be a good opportunity to practice self-shooting with the drone. Zit...

Port Alberni Cross on the Rock video recap is done! If you like nifty aerial shots, tetanus-y decommissioned machinery, and 180fps slow motion, then this one should be right up your alley.

Now that the onsalught of summer race season has subsided, I have some time to pick off a few personal projects. This one was especially fun to put together, despite most of it being filmed with shaky, sweaty iPhones. Accompanied by my two best friends in the whole world, I took a stab at riding from Kamloops out to the Family Estate on my Cross' bike, using long out-dated maps and (conflicting) fragments of "local knowledge". The result was 10 hours, 155km and 3000m of climbing on some very beautiful, very challenging terrain.

There is no story here. No Plot. No purpose. This video is a simple reflection of the beauty that we find when we give ourselves the opportunity to slow down, silence the noise of the world and our minds, and let our surroundings speak to us, impact us. To be where we are, and appreciate it for exactly what it is.

That’s it.

It was another weekend of rowdy, muddy Cross on the Rock racing here on the island (is there any better kind?). Rock City Cycles and The Kona Bicycle Co. gave away a free Super Jake frameset, EVOC threw a new truck pad into the mix, and Muc-Off was on site washing EVERYONE's bikes post race. Island racing doesn't get much better than this.

This was hands down my favorite race of the series last year. Despite ridiculously high expectations, this year did not disappoint in the slightest. I'm still not quite back to where I'd like to be fitness/health wise, but I'm pretty sure I have just as much fun shooting and editing these events as I do racing them. Thanks Cross on the Rock, Arrowsmith Bikes-Nanaimo, and the lovely Town of Qualicum Beach for putting on another stellar event this year!

Had an amazing weekend of riding up in Cumberland. Even though my knee hasn't healed enough to race, I still managed to get out and chase riders around with my cameras at the Island Cup - Vancouver Island Mountain Bike Race Series Cumberland Enduro. Thanks to United Riders of Cumberland and City Cycles for the amazing event, to Max McCulloch for the warp speed POV footage, and to ODESZA for finally giving us a studio release of this siiiick track!

I seem to be creating a tradition where each time I get a new camera, I grab Zita and head to the beach to start the learning process. Yesterday we went to one of our favorite spots, Dallas Road, in search of some dreamy evening light - and we found it.

I’m already in love with how the GH5 shoots, and paired with my Zhiyun Crane stabilizer, this thing cranks our some incredibly rich, buttery smooth footage. Can’t wait to shoot with it at this weekend’s Dynamic Race Events Cultus Lake Triathlon, along with my shooting partner/bud for life

This was one of those days I didn't want to end. While I technically wasn't racing, I did do my own swim, bike and run with camera in hand to get my shots. If you've never been to an XTERRA Canada race, you're missing out big time!

Victoria and I had an amazing weekend camping out at Sombrio to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, and listened to Frightened Rabbit's discography on repeat. It felt like the right time to say goodbye, in my own way, to an artist who wore his heart on his sleeve and provided the soundtrack for a significant portion of my life. I guess the lesson is that life and love are beautiful, and should never be taken for granted.

From my first hearing, Scott Hutchison's voice (of Frightened Rabbit) found its way deep into my soul. His was a voice of pain, honesty, and above all else, ...
