Your experience isn’t the product. Your guest is.

Most brands build immersive activations around their IP — the world, the aesthetic, the lore. And it looks incredible on a mood board.

But the experiences people can’t stop talking about? They’re built around a feeling. What does your guest touch, discover, remember? What do they tell their friends the next day?

Your IP is the invitation. The guest’s story is the event.

Stop designing for the photo op. Start designing for the person standing in the room.

For the last 10 years, Lisa Spira of Room Escape Artist has been tracking the growth of the US Escape Room industry and publishing industry reports. For our Season 10 finale episode, Lisa joins us to talk about this year’s annual report.

New this year is a collaboration with previous REPOD sponsor Morty, an app that tracks individual games as well as escape room companies. Through this collaboration, Lisa was able to look at additional metrics, including revenue.

The 2025 Industry report is available on the Room Escape Artist website, and Lisa shares deeper analysis on this episode.

Some interesting trends noted include consolidation of ownership, and expansion of immersive gaming business models. We also talk about some interesting stats, including which days might be better for an escape room company to go dark; it’s not what you would expect!

We close out the episode with some musings on exciting new design trends in escape room design, trends we don’t care for, and where we think the escape room industry is headed. Whether you’re an escape room owner, aspiring to work in the escape room industry, work in the immersive entertainment field, or just a data-loving enthusiast, the REA US Escape Room Industry Report is a must-read.

This is the last episode of Season 10. Thanks so much for listening. We’ll be back with a new season of REPOD in the spring of 2026. Meanwhile, consider joining our Patreon for access to our library of Bonus Aftershows and Spoilers Club episodes.

Custom music for an escape room?

Magnifico is currently the #1 ranked escape room in the world. Creator Jonathan Driscoll of joins us on the podcast.

Custom music is one of the reasons this escape room is rated so highly. Jonathan talks about designing the music for Magnifico and what they were looking for in the main song.

Oh, and the composer not only created the Reality Escape Pod theme music, he is also the composer of the music for Rick and Morty.

PS. You can hear the whole soundtrack for Magnifico on Spotify.

Play is learning?! We talk about how play and puzzles, especially in escape rooms can teach soft skills.

What are soft skills? Think leadership, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking.

Much of this is learned through group play activities like sports and games. Puzzles and escape rooms provide an opportunity to practice these same skills that will prove so necessary in life.

Adam Bellow guested on the podcast Reality Escape Pod S10E6 to talk about Breakout EDU, which offers escape room games for an academic setting, and how it can help children learn.

In S10E5, we talk with Stephen & Stevie Kristof, owners of 60 to Escape.

They also own a haunt called that also has a “hot seat” escape room.
