Lost one of my hens💔.

She was part of the original flock from 5 years ago. There were no visable signs of trauma or illness, I'm hoping she passed peacefully and naturally.

What 100mm of rain looks like... my garden has a stream running through it!

Edmonton area received significant rain this weekend... and it is still raining.

Assessing the damage after my weekend away.

Should we start building an arc? 🤣My gardens can't take much more rain 😫

Could you spend a weekend with a bunch of women and not talk?

I am going to a silent retreat this weekend.

Looking forward to the rest and reset. I will be unplugging for the weekend. So I will be back on Monday refreshed and renewed 😊❤️

Summer worker honey bees typically live only about 5–6 weeks.

Their lives are short because they work hard during the summer season. As they age, they progress through different jobs:

First 1–2 weeks: Clean cells, feed larvae, and care for the queen inside the hive.

Next 1–2 weeks: Produce wax, build comb, process nectar, and guard the hive.

Final 2–3 weeks: Forage for nectar, pollen, water, and propolis outside the hive.

Foraging is physically demanding and wears out their wings and bodies, which is why summer workers have much shorter lifespans than winter workers. A summer worker may make hundreds of foraging trips before it dies

Good morning. Another cool rainy day here. What do you like to do on rainy days?

Fruit trees are fruiting!

My zone 3 food forest is doing well for a cool wet spring here in central Alberta.

Pollen is the bee colony’s primary source of protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals.

Forager bees collect pollen from flowers and pack it into the honeycomb. Once stored and fermented with bee enzymes and honey, it transforms into bee bread, which is fed to growing larvae and young nurse bees.

The sound coming from my lilac bushes in the morning.

Its the sound of honey bees collecting nectar and pollen to bring back to the hive.

Did you know that it's the oldest bees in the hive that go out to forage?

Today we added two bee nucs (5 frames of bees) into two of our bee hives.

I will give them a least a week to get settled before checking on them.

Any other backyard beekeepers?
