A Leduc resident has been charged following a recent drug trafficking investigation.

30-year-old Daniel Golub was arrested on Dec. 17, 2025, after he was found in breach of multiple court orders. Following a search of his vehicle, police found quantities of drugs, including 171 grams of m**h. The investigation was conducted in partnership between the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and Leduc Drug Unit.

"Collaboration between specialized units is critical in drug investigations," said Cst. Scott Hansen of the Leduc RCMP Drug Unit. "Sharing intelligence and resources helps reduce the impact of illicit drugs in our communities."

The Black Gold School Division has approved its 2025-2026 operational budget.

According to the BGSD, this year's operational budget projects $168.9 million in revenue and $171.1 million in expenses. Associate Superintendent Chelsey Volkman says this has resulted in a deficit of $2.2 million for the current school year.

"The planned deficit will be used to provide staffing to limit increases to class sizes," said Volkman. "Support the diverse needs of students, and support start-up costs for the Calmar Secondary Collegiate School."

It was a busy day for RCMP on Wednesday as several vehicle collisions were reported in the Leduc area.

This comes as a severe winter storm pummeled the region throughout the day. This included heavy, blowing snow, combined with strong gusts of wind of up to 60 km/h, along with whiteout conditions in several areas. This resulted in near zero visibility during portions of the mid-morning and early afternoon.

Leduc RCMP Constable Lindsay McNab says the QEII was particularly treacherous for much of the day, while no areas of the region were spared from the difficult conditions.

The City of Beaumont is pushing back against proposed changes to provincial electoral boundaries.

If passed, the proposed changes would split Beaumont into two separate provincial constituencies. Residents located west of 50 Street would remain in the Leduc-Beaumont riding, while those to the east of 50 Street would join the newly proposed Strathcona-Sherwood Park constituency.

The City has penned a letter to the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission asking them to keep Beaumont as a single riding.

"We recognize the members of the Commission have a difficult challenge balancing many factors to maintain fair representation, but we're concerned the new borders weaken our voice in the Alberta Legislature," said Mayor Lisa Vanderkwaak. "Beaumont is a rapidly growing, cohesive urban community with a distinct social identity, and I'm hopeful the Commission will take another look and reconsider the proposed changes."

The Edmonton International Airport is preparing for what could be its busiest travel season in years.

According to YEG, anticipated travel volumes are expected to reach the highest they've been since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Manager of Corporate Communications Erin Isfeld says it’s been a long road back to normal volumes.

"It has taken a few years for us to get back to that," said Isfeld. "We've re-built our non-stop destinations, we've re-built some of the great amenities that we have here at the airport, and now we take a look at going forward. We have so much to look forward to in the upcoming year."

She says that passenger volumes at the Edmonton International Airport are projected to reach 8.1 million by the end of the year.

RCMP say that a 34-year-old Leduc resident was arrested this week for intentionally ramming a police cruiser with his truck.

The incident unfolded shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025. According to the Mounties, a police vehicle was making patrols in the area of 50 Avenue and Grant MacEwan Boulevard when it was rammed from behind by the driver of an orange pickup truck. RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff says the collision sent the two vehicles into the ditch.

"The suspect then exited his vehicle in an attempt to leave the scene," said Cpl. Savinkoff. "Our officer, who was injured in the collision, exited his police car and was ultimately able to chase down the suspect and arrest him."
