Got a myth you want us to tackle? Drop it in the comments. We'll bust it next.

Opal builds its rainbow from tiny spheres. Ammolite builds its from thin flat layers of a fossil shell. Two different structures, and two very different stories.

Colors, brightness, color shift, or size, what draws you in first when you look at a piece of Ammolite?

Most of what lived in that ancient sea left no trace at all. Ammolite is one of the rare exceptions, a piece of that world that somehow made it all the way to ours. Every time I work with it, I'm grateful for the chance to handle something this rare.

Long before it became a gemstone, Ammolite was a spiral.

Roughly 70 million years ago, an Ammonite grew its shell the way nautiluses still do today — outward, chamber by chamber, in a logarithmic curve that echoes the golden ratio found throughout the natural world, from sunflower seed heads to spiral galaxies. That ratio, approximately 1.618, has carried another name for centuries: mathematicians and Renaissance artists called it the divine proportion, for how naturally it seemed to appear wherever beauty and order met.

That Ammonite fossilized. Its shell transformed into microscopically thin layers of aragonite — and light does the rest. When it enters those layers, it bends and splits into color no lab could design, changing and shifting with every new angle the stone is turned.

That's where our name comes from. “Divine”, for the golden ratios old name. “Ammonite”, for the fossil that carries its pattern. And our tagline — “Nature's golden ratio” — for the idea itself, now worn as a jewel.

Every piece we cut is a small continuation of that same pattern: the same proportion, the same light, seventy million years later.
