The most immediate benefit of this modern mechanical pairing is found at the gas pump. Historically, driving a capable 4x4 meant accepting frequent, expensive fill-ups, but the 2026 Cherokee completely rewrites that narrative. The turbo-hybrid powertrain yields an incredibly efficient fuel consumption rating of just 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers combined (or an EPA-estimated 37 mpg). While the Cherokee comes well-equipped with standard heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, it noticeably lacks luxury niceties like ventilated front seats or heated rear seats on its standard sheet—features that are becoming increasingly common in high-trim rivals. While it still passed our Moose Baby Test, our Moose parent would have appreciated some added niceties to go with the USB connections and rear seat air vents.
Moving to the back of the SUV, the cargo area proves that Jeep engineers prioritized practical utility. Pop open the available power liftgate, and you are greeted by a versatile cargo space offering 34 cubic feet of storage behind the second row, which expands to a highly accommodating 68.3 cubic feet when you fold the rear seats flat, easily accommodating our signed Doug Gilmour hockey stick, a pass for our Canadian Cargo Test . Plus, unlike many modern hybrids that compromise cargo floor depth to accommodate heavy battery components, Jeep managed to neatly pack a space-saver doughnut spare tire right beneath the trunk floor, ensuring real-world peace of mind on remote drives.
That practicality extends directly to its capability as a weekend adventure vehicle. The 2026 Cherokee Hybrid boasts an impressive towing capacity of up to 1,587 kilograms (3,500 pounds), which stands as an unsurpassed rating among standard hybrid electric SUVs in its class. Whether you need to haul a small utility trailer, a pair of personal watercraft, or a lightweight pop-up camper into the woods, this powertrain possesses the necessary muscle to bring your Active Urban Lifestyle accessories along for the ride.
