Trump’s Lake Ontario renaming saga continues 👀🇨🇦🇺🇸

After Trump floated calling it “Lake America,” a new petition is pushing an alternative: “Lake Obama.” 😂

What should it be called? 👇

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an order directing the interior secretary to rename Lake Ontario to "Lake America" as Canada trade war persists.

Trump cannot force Canada to follow his preferred naming convention, however.

The move is reminiscent of his move last year to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America."

Drivers across the province can now travel faster as speed limits increase on numerous highways, including some stretches of Hwy. 400.

Effective Friday, drivers will be able to travel up to 110 km/h on the following stretches of highway:

Hwy. 7 from Appleton Side Road/County Road 17 to Hwy. 417
Hwy. 400 from Hwy. 401 to Lake Joseph Road
Hwy. 115 from Hwy. 35 to Parkway Interchange
Hwy. 416 from 1.5 km south of the Hwy. 416/417 interchange to Fallowfield Road/County Road 12
Hwy. 417 from Leitrim Road to Ottawa Regional Road 174
Hwy. 417 from the Hwy. 416/417 interchange to Hwy. 7

The changes come after the Ford government sought to increase speed limits on numerous stretches across the province. By the end of September, 89 per cent of the province’s highways will have posted speed limits of 110 km/h, according to Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria during a news conference in June.

On Aug. 31, multiple stretches of Hwy. 401 will be affected by the change.

Ontario will ban cat declawing, dog ear cropping and devocalization starting Jan. 1, 2027, but tail docking will remain legal.

Veterinarians and animal advocates are criticizing the decision, saying tail docking causes pain and is medically unnecessary. Breeders argue it can prevent future tail injuries and should remain available when performed by a veterinarian.

Ontario is currently the only province without a veterinary ban on dog tail docking.

Doug Ford says Ontario must welcome massive data centres to protect Canadians’ data from the U.S. and President Donald Trump.

Speaking Monday, Ford defended the province’s new Data Centre Playbook, saying projects must cover their full electricity costs, meet environmental standards and benefit local communities.

Ontario has about 100 data centres already, while Mississauga and Oakville have imposed temporary moratoriums on new facilities.

Ford says the industry could generate $122 billion in economic growth by 2035 and create more than 17,000 jobs annually, while helping keep sensitive Canadian data in Canada.

Ontario Transport Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria says the federal government gave in to "fringe groups" by rejecting Toronto's Billy Bishop Airport jet expansion. Ontario is now reconsidering its support for the Alto high-speed rail project after Ottawa backed away from months of discussions linking support for both projects. The federal government cited public opposition and safety concerns, while Ontario argues the decision could hurt future infrastructure projects.
