RCCG Youth Pastor Gets Death Sentence After Wife Found with 76 Stab Wounds and Collapses, Prays “Jesus Have Mercy” in Court
A youth pastor from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Akolade Arowolo, was sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Lateefat Okunu of the Ikeja High Court after being convicted of murdering his wife, Titilayo , a banker with Skye Bank. In a dramatic courtroom moment Arowolo fell to his knees and cried out, “Jesus have mercy,” as the three-hour judgment made clear the court accepted forensic evidence that the wounds could not have been self-inflicted.
• Forensic pathologist Prof. John Oladapo Obafunwa testified the autopsy showed 76 knife stab wounds, ruling out su***de.
• Prosecutors said the evidence proved Arowolo killed his wife in their matrimonial home; the judge handed down the death sentence.
• Witnesses, including Titilayo’s father, sister and mother-in-law , described a frequently troubled marriage, though none saw the fatal incident.
• A co-tenant reported hearing a loud noise and later saw Arowolo with deep cuts; a broken-handled knife and a hammer were found in the yard.
• Arowolo maintained he was innocent, saying his wife was “possessed” and that she stabbed herself after an earlier altercation; his parents testified to his good character.
This case is tragic on every level , a marriage gone violently wrong, a forensic verdict that leaves no room for doubt, and a courtroom scene that will haunt many. Whatever your view on marriage or justice, the victims here deserve clarity and the truth to be front and center.
