Better Watch Out (2016)

A suburban set-up bathed in twinkling lights. A home that should feel safe. It doesn’t.

This is holiday horror as formal exercise: misdirection, tonal precision, and audience expectation as a weapon. We like it because it deconstructs the “home invasion” trope, plays with narrative perspective, and balances dark comedy with calibrated suspense. Every frame manipulates what you think you know—this is craft meeting cruelty, and it’s why it stands out in seasonal horror.

Add it to your watch list not for comfort, but for tension executed with rigor.

A proudly Canadian horror that found global cult appeal and helped put Canadian genre cinema on the map.

Directed by Bob Clark—the same filmmaker who later gave us A Christmas Story. Same season. Opposite ends of the holiday.
Warmth on one end. Dread on the other.

It influenced Halloween, defined the modern slasher, and pioneered the rules before there were rules.

We love it for its cold, quiet tension, its sense of place, and the way it lingers long after the credits roll.
