Today Nova Scotians are mourning the loss of a woman who died during the flooding in our province.
My thoughts are with her loved ones and everyone who is grieving this tragic loss.
I want to thank the first responders, emergency workers, volunteers and municipal teams who are working tirelessly to keep people safe and support communities affected by the flooding.
To everyone in Nova Scotia, please continue to take care of yourselves and each other and follow the advice of local authorities. Stay off the roads while the weather is bad. Your safety is our priority

ROAD CONDITIONS UPDATE — CAPE BRETON

Motorists are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel across parts of Cape Breton as crews continue assessing widespread flooding, washouts and road damage following this weekend's storm.

Some of the specific roads and areas where flooding, washouts or closures have been reported include:

• Route 4 in the Big Pond area
• Route 4 near South Side River Bourgeois in Richmond County
• Route 216 at Benacadie
• Gillis Lake Road at Beechmont
• Macvicar Road at Loch Lomond
• Highlands Road at Benacadie

In the Sydney area, closures and flooding have also been reported on Townsend Street, Brookland Street, Royal Avenue, Cabot Street, Lorne Street, St. Peters Road, Mackenzie Street, Morrison Street and Essex Street.

Officials say Richmond County, particularly areas around the Bras d'Or Lake, has suffered significant damage to roads, bridges and driveways. Numerous roads have also been washed out in Inverness County.

A State of Local Emergency remains in effect in Inverness, Victoria and Richmond counties as crews continue inspecting damaged infrastructure.

Conditions can change quickly and additional roads may be closed without warning.

If you must travel, check the LIVE 511 Nova Scotia map before leaving. Never drive through standing water, across a washed-out road or around a barricade.

Residents of Inverness, Victoria and Richmond counties and the Town of Port Hawkesbury can report non-emergency storm-related concerns through the Municipal Support Line at 902-625-7888.

Lighthouse Radio will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as new information becomes available.

Missing person located deceased



September 6, 2026, Cleveland, Nova Scotia ... Richmond County District RCMP, together with ground search and rescue and fire services volunteers, recovered the body of a woman reported missing September 5.



At approximately 8:45 a.m., Richmond County District RCMP received a report of a missing 46-year-old from Cleveland after the woman's vehicle was located parked near her residence on the far side of a flooded bridge.



A search was initiated involving RCMP officers, Ground Search and Rescue volunteers, and local fire services. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the body of a woman was recovered in the area.



The woman's death is not believed to be suspicious.



Nova Scotia RCMP thank all those who assisted in the search efforts.



Our thoughts are with the woman's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
