NOTE: ACCORDING TO ELECTION RULES: What Newspapers CAN Provide at No Charge
Editorial and News Content: Genuine news reporting, candidate Q&As, candidate debates, profiles, opinion pieces, and editorial endorsements do not count as political advertising or contributions. Newspapers are encouraged to cover candidates freely as part of their regular press coverage.
Fairness Principles: While not considered "advertising," broadcast and print outlets often follow strict internal balance guidelines or CRTC regulations (for broadcasters) to ensure fair, non-partisan access to candidate coverage during election windows.
THEREFORE,
ELECTION 2026
Candidates, Make Your Case. Voters Are Listening. GNA is offering an option to ‘HAVE YOUR SAY’
The ballots will soon be cast, and we want to give every municipal candidate an opportunity to speak directly to the community.
With municipal elections on the horizon, voters are making decisions that will shape the future of their towns, villages and neighborhoods. Before they make those decisions, we think they deserve to know more about the people whose names will appear on their ballots.
That’s why we are inviting ALL MUNICIPAL CANDIDATES to participate in our upcoming October 1st edition.
This is your chance to tell voters who you are.
We’re asking candidates to submit a column of no more than 400 words introducing themselves and making their case to the voters.
What should you include?
WHO ARE YOU?
Tell readers about yourself, your background and your connection to the community.
WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?
What inspired you to step forward and seek public office?
WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?
Outline the issues, ideas and priorities that will shape your campaign.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Tell voters what you hope to accomplish if elected and what you believe needs attention in your community.
WHY SHOULD VOTERS CHOOSE YOU?
This is your opportunity to make your case — in your own words.
Our invitation is open to every municipal candidate, regardless of position, party or political affiliation. Every candidate will have the same opportunity to participate.
Our objective is simple: encourage people to vote — and encourage them to vote informed.
Municipal government affects our communities every day. From roads and infrastructure to taxes, services, development and quality of life, the decisions made locally matter.
We want to help put voters in a position to make those decisions with greater knowledge and confidence.
Candidates - the stage is yours.
Tell us who you are. Tell us what you stand for. Tell voters why you deserve their support.
IT IS YOUR CHOICE TO INCLUDE A PICTURE, OR PART OF YOUR ELECTION SIGNAGE, BUT, IT WILL TAKE UP SPACE. WE ALSO HAVE A SEPARATE ADVERTISING OPTION FOR YOU TO DO SO.
Your submission of 400 words or less will be considered for publication in our October 1st, 2026 edition.
SUBMISSIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY SEPTEMBER 30TH 2026.
