III: A Hard Thing A Simple Way (It’s been mentioned)

You’ve crafting something emotionally ambitious, artistically rich, and technically refined. The balance between formal control and expressive openness fits squarely within a meta-modern framework—feeling deeply, while thinking clearly.

This is a striking pivot from the first two movements—it feels almost like a chamber interlude or intimate monologue, but with latent intensity.
It evokes paradox—“a hard thing a simple way”—and the music delivers on that: there’s elegance, but you feel an emotional weight under the surface.
You use silence and pause with real sophistication. Phrases breathe and hang, like thoughts trying to form in a quiet space.
Feels like it could function as a musical “aside” or internal soliloquy within the broader narrative of the album.
There’s a delicate tension—almost a philosophical restraint. Not sad, not dark, but inquisitive and uncertain.
It reminds me of the kind of movement that might follow a deep emotional outburst—in RED—with a moment of intellectual or moral reflection.

2. The Properties of Kindness (It’s been mentioned)

Immediately more intense than the Prelude—it is elemental, volatile, and alive.
There’s a clear narrative pulse. The pacing evokes transformation, like something blooming violently or unraveling.
It has a cinematic, ballet-like progression—it feels choreographic.
Tremendous use of instrumental colour. The brass and low strings carry weight and momentum, while upper woodwinds and strings offer contrast—tension versus lightness.
Percussion is dramatic without being overwhelming. It’s used rhythmically and atmospherically—smart choices.
The thematic material evolves in waves—not rigidly symmetrical, but with intentional arcs.
Motifs are layered and revisited, lending emotional coherence to what might otherwise feel volatile.
Meta-Modernist alignment: it leans into emotional intensity, but it’s not melodramatic. It’s sincere and expressive, clearly crafting a sense of symbolic storytelling. It contrasts with the Prelude to support a broader emotional dialogue, hinting at a work that’s aware of its journey, not just its aesthetic.

Regarding Allegorica Fabula (It’s been mentioned 😉)

1. Pebble In A Pond
The opening sets a meditative tone; a kind of stillness that feels ritualistic, like the calm before a vision or dream.
The texture evolves very organically, like ripples in water, so the title absolutely matches the musical concept. Love that synergy.
Subtle motivic development through orchestral swells and sparse harmonic changes keeps the listener in a suspended state.
There’s a strong spatial awareness in the writing—plenty of room to breathe. Minimalism without coldness.
The piece feels reflective and even reverent. Not dramatic, but gently immersive. It invites patience.

Meta-modernist Vibe
Pebble In A Pond walks the line between sincerity (deep calm, emotional openness) and conceptual awareness (the “pebble” metaphor, minimalist structure). It doesn’t feel ironic, but it does feel like it’s aware of its own symbolism, and leans into that gracefully.

Allegorica Fabula | Artist Statement
This album is an emotionally charged mythology.
Each movement is rooted in a private truth but told as if it belongs to a collective dream. In composing Allegorica Fabula, I was trying to explain the journey one takes from, for example, little gay boy to composer. No part of the greater story needed invention, other than musical invention, to tell the story of that journey, of how we got here.
It’s about finding beauty after the rupture. About noticing the softest things in a loud world. About kindness as a form of courage whether it comes naturally, as a choice, or a challenge. Observations! (and a lot of listening)
The final movement, The Fairy’s Winter Promenade, is my epilogue. It came during a walk—one winter’s night—when I was at the edge of understanding what it meant to love my self-alone.
I was 15.

One of my earliest memories is of almost drowning -only I didn’t. Knocked off the dock by a group of over zealous older boys, my aunt Esther immediately began to coach me; “Kick these, move those.” And, to cut to the chase, in a very short time I morphed into a fish. I was 4 years old. Little Mermaid THAT!

Allegorica Fabula: Confab One: A Hard Thing A Simple Way
The Narrative

12/01/2025

Music seldom happens entirely of its own accord; that’s a foolish assumption.

I find between the major events in one’s life some gentle souls who stand out because of their subtle influence on past events which they themselves directly had nothing to do with. And it is beyond satisfying to have unknowingly had the foresight all those years ago to “write things down” for future reference.

Over time some of these ‘Confabulations’, as it turns out, became the glue to an otherwise splintered, often painful, sometimes shattering transformation of one’s self, and consequently, one’s craft.

Now, though it can never be said that I was, or am, overly generous with the verbal expressions of my gratitude; it is seldom shown in a form familiar to those harbouring a narrower perspective, it is, however, there in another form, I assure you.

And, because it really is very closet my heart despite the absolute coldness of our age regarding works of this kind… RED

For the conversations you may have long forgotten… 6 variations on what I can only describe as a very particular feeling, exhibiting a sort of continuum in the journal; not a motif, nor a theme, but a feeling. 🥰

Thank you Brenda, Lyndon, Nancy, Norina, Ted, and Rexford for That Feeling.
