Yesterday we bought a Christmas tree.
Canada has beautiful tree farms, some of them offer you to drink free hot cocoa sit by the fire and … 🪓 cut your own tree 😱.
My mom my daughters and I decided to go for “hunting”. The Boys were left at home to protect the house😂. So we decided to “hunt” at some local Christmas tree farm where we would always go. They would have a choice to cut your own or buy a precut one. This year they didn’t have that choice.
We drank the cocoa took pictures by the fire and moved deeper into the farm with a little metal saw. Just holding it was painful. The deeper I went into the woods the harder it was for me to kill that tree. They all were there beautiful tall, not so perfect and short, huge old trees and very tiny ones just popped out of the ground. I firmly decided, I am not cutting any of these. Happy families cutting choosing carrying trees were all around us, excited, joyful but not me. I declared the verdict to my girls “nope we are not cutting the trees period”. So we took some pictures , inhaled fresh winter piny air and walked back to the car. “We will buy the one from Canadian tire, I said, they are still gonna throw those away”. We bought the tree from Canadian tire, not too tall not too short but saved one from drying out with no toys on it:).
Did you know that trees know about our intentions? They can distinguish between a person walking in the woods and a person coming with an intention to cut it. I saw that tree farm as a tree slaughterhouse.
Did you know that tradition to put stuff on a pine tree is coming from ancient times from Europe? But that time people would use intestines of animals (I hope only animals) to make the evil spirit of death (winter) kind towards their children. The people would take those hearts, livers, kidneys (red toys) and intestines (garlands) go to the woods, put on the tree that was evergreen (representing the overcoming death) and place it there for the evil spirits that awake after the winter solstice? Wait where is the birthday of Jesus? Ah overcoming death I see. Anyways. I am more logical than I ever thought of me. Who could be a representation of an evil winter spirit that took children? 🤔 💭 🧐 . I thought a bit. Who can actually physically harm children in winter? Yes, the woken bear! What bear can do? Yes, climb the trees! Sooooooo. If people place those organs on the tree a bear if it awakens can smell it right? Or no 🤔 💭 a wolf won’t be able to reach it, a fox neither. It was a very smart way to protect villagers in winter. Deeper in the woods (representing night) place “toys and garlands” on a tree and celebrate your life cuz the bear won’t take your infants from you when it had food. Will go back to sleep until the warm and kind summer.
You are welcome! Where did I read it from. Nowhere just logical thinking. Many myths can be busted like that but many shouldn’t be busted for the purpose of fighting bigger evils. Some evil spirits come in winter time as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It’s one of the concerns of many Canadians. Winter is cold, less vitamin D, less fresh air and here it is they call it winter depression. Then this Christmas tree ritual comes in handy! Seeing the beautiful lights and colours, shining brightly, bringing hope may also be the way to fight the “evil spirits”.
So go ahead and create the holiday mood in your home for yours and your family’s mental health support. Play beautiful music allow the holiday magic heal your heart!
Still gonna say that! Merry Christmas!🎄
