It's been a very busy and Exciting couple of weeks in Unama'ki, with our efforts to advocate for a film incentive that works for outlying regions of the Province. On June 28th, 2024, Our Premier Tim Houston announced in Unama'ki/Destination Cape Breton the New Distant Location Film Incentives, which will allow us to have the tools needed to develop and build on the work already done, in expanding the motion picture industry in Nova Scotia. More Good News from UMPCoop

So last week, Unama'ki Motion Picture Coopertive or UMPCoop visited We'koqma'q Mi'kmaw School to talk about the opportunities for entrance into the Motion Picture industry. We had a fantastic turn out and lots of interest, from Students to staff. Lots of question on the steps needed to get that first chance. Thanks to the Inverness Oran for writing up this story on our visit. We're going to bring the Motion Picture Industry to Unama'ki/Cape Breton - STAND BY!!

So this was earlier today, leading the way to the department of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, as we were meeting with the Department heads and Associate Deputy Minister Chris Shore. Working hard to expand the Nova Scotia Film Industry so that it reaches all areas of the province.
Let's make Film and TV everywhere in Nova Scotia and make our province a leader in the creative arts sector and create jobs and opportunities for all of Nova Scotia.

I think it went rather well and I'm optimistic to see some opportunities come out of today's meeting. They were a very receptive audience. Thanks to minister MacMaster for suggesting a meeting with his department.
