We’ve {finally} got our annual Summer Fun List written up! 😎 Let the festivities officially begin! 🎉

Each summer we write up a list of things we would like to do, so when we get a day or two free, instead of ‘we’re bored!’ we get ‘this is FUN!’ 😄

We’ve done the Summer Fun List for a few years now, so we have a couple things we always like to do, like camping, the beach, and the art maze. 🗺️

We also like to add in something new each year, but it’s getting harder to do it on a budget as the kids show interest in different things. Like the water parks and paint ball. Both are great outside time, but not cheap outside time 😆

This year’s new things include picking New to us beaches, instead of always visiting our old favs, and a sculpture garden on the south shore as a day trip.

We also left lots of room to add things to the list!
What would you put on your summer fun list? 🌊

June in Review! ☀️

June was the wind up of youth sports, and the wind down of school. We did a lot of nature walks, to warm up for some summer hikes we have planned. 🥾

We also restarted our 1000 Hours Outside challenge on June 1! Our goal is to be outside together for 2-3 hours a day doing things like sports or gardening or walks. So far we are a bit behind, but with summer vacation here we should be able to catch up easily.

The month in pics:
🌸Nature walks
⚽️Youth sports
✂️Big changes!
🪨Rocks on walks
🌻More nature walks
👵Old stuff
👩‍🌾Rhubarb
🎨Art time
🍟Sports & snacks

🐙Market helper trinket collection (it was a good trinket day)
🎩It’s called fashion, look it up
⚓️Sea side walks
🗺️Vacation time!

Last night the kids helped me do some product shots and ended up making our first decorations for spooky season. Some of the colours even glow in the dark! So fun. 👻

Coincidentally, today happens to be Friday the 13th- a pretty great time to officially kick off spooky season!

While we have never ‘celebrated’ friday the 13th in the past, we are always ready to try new traditions!🧟‍♀️

Since we usually have a movie night on Friday or Saturday night, tonight we will pick a PG spooky movie to kick off spooky season fun.
Any suggestions for what we should start with?
It may be dependant on whats available on Netflix or prime….📽️

Some fabulous floral place holder pics 🌸

Now that the kids are back in school and we are starting to settle into our fall routine, 📆I can finally play catch up and share all the summer fun we had!

I have beach posts, playground reviews, ✌️weekly highlight reels, and more to share over the coming days. Once I’m all caught up on sharing our summer adventures I will hopefully be back on schedule for sharing life as it actually happens!

But first, coffee! ☕️

Tried to take some photos for family movie night, and I end up catching weird faces and closed eyes- in cartoons!
It takes skill to catch a cartoon blinking, and I guess I have that skill! 😆

Anyways.
Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness is an adorable movie.

Unfortunately, our local library workers are on strike. One of the main things on the table is the fight for a living wage.

I support the library workers fully - they absolutely deserve more than we could ever pay them. I fully believe that library workers do more their communities than any other public official or government worker.
Don’t believe me? Then you haven’t been to a library recently.

Libraries are not just about borrowing books
Our library alone has:
a seed library to start your own garden, and grow your own food.
Instrument loans for kids who are interested in music
A kitchen with food programs available for all ages.
Computers for games and for work
A kids zone with toys for most ages inside and a huge playground for all ages outside.
Social programs for all age groups
Teen zone drop in centre in the basement
Free snacks for anyone who is hungry

And the library also offers and hosts a huge variety of programs like
stitch night
Games nights
Movies in the library and outside in the park
Community art shows
All ages Puppet shows
Toddler Story times
Seniors movement classes
Cooking classes
Family Law clinics
Housing support clinics
And more I’m sure!

Not to mention, the library is the only sheltered place people of all walks of life can go to and simply exist. Libraries don’t need you to buy something, or be attending an event. You can simply show up and exist, no questions asked.

Please show support for your local library and library workers any way you can, preferably before yours go on strike
In HRM Nova Scotia you can support library workers on strike by emailing the Halifax Public Library Chair at [email protected] to let them know why you support the strike.
