Canadian Immigrant Canadian Immigrant is a national platform for immigrants in Canada with events across Canada.

Founded in 2004, the magazine began with a mandate to "inform, educate and motivate" immigrants to Canada and assist them in their new found journey. Since then, the magazine has grown to be the only national multi-platform brand for all immigrants to Canada, on topics from careers to education to settlement. Canadian Immigrant not only connects newcomers in Canada, but also aspiring immigrants from more than 150 countries.

Meet one of our Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award Recipients of 2025, presented by Western Union and program partners COSTI and Edward Jones, Lenya Wilks. Originally from Jamaica, now residing in Vancouver, MB, she is the Director at DIVERSEcity in Surrey, B.C.

Her top tip for other newcomers is “Don’t be afraid to start over and never be ashamed of where you begin. Your journey may not unfold as you expected, but every experience, no matter how small, contributes to your story. Stay open to learning, ask for help when you need it and remain connected to your purpose. The path may be challenging at times, but trust that with resilience, humility and heart, you’ll find your way and likely discover strengths you didn’t know you had.”

Meet one of our Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award Recipients of 2025, presented by and program partners COSTI and Edward Jones, Aloysius Anyichie. Originally from Nigeria, now residing in Brandon, MB, he is an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at Brandon University and founder and CEO of Loy Excellentia Initiative.

His top tip for other newcomers is “Stay grounded in who you are but be fearless about who you can become. The beginning can be tough. You might feel lost, invisible or uncertain, but stay focused. Know what you want, work hard toward it and trust that the path will reveal itself as you grow. This country is full of opportunities, but they often present themselves to those who stay prepared by learning, investing in themselves and giving back to the community around them. Above all, stay passionate, broaden your horizons, and never lose sight of where you come from. Your faith, your culture and your sense of purpose are not just your roots, they’re your compass.”
