Are we condemned to judge each other by race?
In 1963, Martin Luther King said everyone should be judged “on the content of their character”.
But in the 21st century, this is being attacked on both sides of the political extremes.
We’re told, in different ways, that merit and character aren’t really what matter most.
Activists like Ibram X Kendi argued that “the only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination”, and authors like Robin DiAngelo writes that to be less oppressing means being “less white”. And woke right Twitter lights ablaze with racial animus daily.
My guest in this episode of the podcast is The Free Press own Coleman Hughes, whose book The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colourblind America brings Dr. King’s vision to the 21st Century.
We discussed the blowback he faced from the mainstream media for advancing colourblindness, why colourblindness is the only path to a just and fair society, and other topics like the impact of social media, religion and the culture war on today’s youth.
Coleman has emerged as a calming voice of reason in these wild times, and it was an absolute joy and honour to have the opportunity of interviewing him.
I hope you all enjoy it nearly as much as I did - out now on all the platforms!
