Alex Robshaw interviews her former guitar player Julian Stirpe, who now lives in Toronto. Julian is a remarkably talented and prolific songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. He scores films, commercials and series, and is part of the band Blue June.

Julian talks about his formative years and creative inspirations, and shares insights on the Toronto indie music scene, comparing with Alex's experiences on the Montreal music scene. Alex and Julian recall times together as bandmates, and discuss the reality of being an indie musician in 2022. It does come down to passion for music, and this interview radiates exactly that!

Alex Robshaw reçoit Louis St-Onge, bassiste actuel de son groupe, avec qui elle a fait plusieurs spectacles par le passé, et qui a également joué sur son deuxième album Original Game.

Louis parle de ses années de formation, puis de son parcours en tant que bassiste, au sein des groupes Be Astronaut , LineDriver , Burning The Oppressor, Elephant Rose, ainsi que plusieurs groupes hommage.

Louis partage le large éventail de ses expériences sur la scène indépendante, offrant une perspective raffinée sur la réalité des musiciens qui la composent. Il amène également l'importance d'avoir des propriétaires de salles de spectacles qui ont à coeur de développer une communauté et de valoriser les musiciens qui la font vivre.

This ep*sode features a conversation between Alex and Rob Helsten, a musician active on the Montreal music scene for around 15 years now. Rob's former projects include After the Weather (when Alex and Rob met) and Forgotten Fix; he's currently part of a duo called Down With Space, with Steve Dumas. Rob is also the co-owner of the studio Delicate/Automatic.

From his background and creative process to stories and experiences as a musician in Montreal, Rob shares his deep love for the indie music scene, providing marvellous insights on what it means to be an active player in it. To be part of a scene is exactly that -you have to be a part of it, says Rob, going into what that means in a post-lockdown world, and how to find balance in the reality of being an indie musician in 2022.

Alex and Rob share great stories on their experiences as indie musicians here in Montreal since the mid-to-late 2000's, making for a wonderful, insightful conversation on what it means to be an independent artist now -we do it because we have to!

Alex Robshaw reçoit Simon L'Espérance, guitariste du groupe Karcius - une entrevue bien spéciale, de belles retrouvailles après 18 ans! Simon partage ses expériences comme musicien indépendant, ainsi qu'en tant qu'ingénieur de son. Le groupe Karcius est actif depuis 20 ans déjà, avec un parcours riche, donnant lieu à une discussion super intéressante et enrichissante sur l'évolution du milieu de la musique indépendante et de la réalité des musiciens au sein de cette évolution. Simon raconte aussi l'expérience de création et de production de leur nouvel album, Grey White Silver Yellow & Gold, dans le contexte de la pandémie. Tous deux grandement passionnés de leur art et de la musique en général, Alex et Simon échangent leurs histoires de parcours et leurs réalisations quant à leur réalité conjointe d'artistes de la musique au 21e siècle. Martin Saint is the lead-singer and second guitar player of Montreal's The Ember Glows.

He recently co-formed the electronica/indie act Portmanteau while also pursuing his own solo project since 2019. His overall solo sound shows hints of Bowie, Nick Cave, The Doors, Leonard Cohen, Echo & the Bunnymen, with special emphasis on words and atmosphere.

In the meantime he pursues part-time projects such as some spoken word and collaborating with other musicians. In 2018, he toured Europe as a member of Johnny Couteau's band. His past projects include fronting Montreal band Citylake.
