The Official DJ Of The Morning Detour On CKUT 90.3FM Every Friday @ 7AM-9AM DJ Nelles (Janelle) is a 29 year old DJ based in Montreal, Quebec. I've been a DJ for 6 Years now, I started at 23 years old. Born and raised in Montreal, I have been introduced to different styles of music all my life (Reggae, R&B, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Soca etc). My style of mixing is based on New and Old school music that

I grew up on. I've traveled to different cities within the U.S (Miami FL, Atlanta GA, Mississippi and New Orleans) and I have discovered a flavor in mixing that has been missed. I have always been obsessed with music since I was a little girl. Knowing what was hot at the time, to spending hours downloading and making sure I always had my music on point. At 14 I taught myself how to use Virtual DJ from my laptop. I have gone from always having my headphones in to throwing little parties with my girls. I have now taken it to the next level and now use Serato DJ and mix at clubs, parties, events and schools. I've always been told I have an old soul and I plan on bringing that energy to my audience every time! I specialize in: R&B, Old School, Hip Hop/Trap, Dancehall, Reggae, Soca, Afro Beat, Deep House, Pop Hits, Reggaeton. One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

This event hit different for me and a lot of us. Being an important figure in the music industry, and as my duty to showcase R&B and HipHop for the city every week on FM radio to incorporating those genres in my sets, building my music library for yearsssss and staying on top of new music and curating playlists for y’all. This music is such a huge part of our identity and it was important to me to deliver the variety of artists that make Hip Hop and R&B so special. For something like this to go down in Montreal and Uptown on top of that !!! 😮‍💨😮‍💨 I’m still on a cloud. Proud is an understatement.

Get to know DJ Nelles

I’m a 25 year old DJ based in MTL, Quebec Growing up in Montreal exposed me to many different styles of music such as Reggae, R&B, Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Soca and so much more. My style of mixing is a combination of new music and Old school music of all genres. Traveling to the south has also allowed me to connect with different types of music and I love integrating a little southern touch to my mixing.

A few of my favourite artists include: August Alsina, Aaliyah, Ashanti, Jazzy Amra, Jagged Edge, SWV, Yung Bleu, Gunna, Dave East, 2pac, Nas, Le$, Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, Shenseea etc.. Just to name a FEW.

I have a huge love for R&B music ever since I was a little girl. I love discovering new underground artists.

Music is so powerful; a song can take you back to a special moment, it can get you hype or mellow you out. A good DJ knows how to adjust their style based on their audience; that’s where my versatility, my energy and my passion comes in!
