🚀🫏🚀🫏🚀DONKEYS AND ROCKETS UNITE!!🫏🚀🫏🚀🫏🚀

We’re so so happy to announce an upcoming 5-city simultaneous screening of a very star-studded double-bill! Jul Elie’s DocNYC Shifting Baselines will be preceded by Alison McAlpine’s PERFECTLY A STRANGENESS, a nominee for this year’s Academy Award for Best Short Doc!

Both of these films have, at their core, an examination of humanity’s place in the heavens. Both explore questions of space-exploration and observation. Both could not have been made without the help and cooperation of the world’s top astronomers and observatories, from the ESO Astronomy to the McDonald Observatory, from Andrew Lawrence to Nathalie Ouellette. Both were coloured by the venerable Marc Bucrot and were made possible by the incredible camera & post teams at CineGround. Aonan Yang and Andreas Mendritzki are super proud and grateful to have played their part s in helping to produce these two spectacular films. This is a rare chance to see both back-to-back – and perhaps one of the last times to see them on the big screen!

March 2nd in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Whitby, Kingston & Ottawa; presented by Landmark Cinemas Canada!!

Thanks to Les Films du 3 Mars & Second Sight Pictures!

Hey Toronto! If any of you missed Sofia Bohdanowicz's MEASURES FOR A FUNERAL at TIFF last year, now's your chance to see it on the big screen.

We're so chuffed that none other than Atom Egoyen will be moderating a Q&A after the screening with Sofia and other members of the team.

The film brings to light an important figure of Canadian music history, Violinist Kathleen Parlow, and features a remarkable performance from Deragh Campbell.

THIS SUNDAY at the TIFF LIGHTBOX!

Join us for a special Q&A screening of with director Sofia Bohdanowicz, cinematographer Nikolay Michaylov, and mixer Lucas Prokaziuk, moderated by Atom Egoyan.
🎟️ Tickets on sale now at TIFF.net.

Measures for a Funeral spotlights a young academic racing toward the legacy of acclaimed early 20th-century Canadian violinist Kathleen Parlow — while simultaneously fleeing the shadow of her own failed-musician mother.

🚀 Shifting Baselines just received a 𝐉𝐮𝐫𝐲'𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in the International Competition at FIDOCS!
Jury's statement :
"We would like to give special mention to a film whose sincere attention to individual voices builds a collective understanding of our current catastrophe. Its deep interest and curiosity about its participants allows ideas to emerge organically, without being prescriptive or didactic.

In a country where the skies can be read so clearly, and at a festival rooted in what its founder once called ‘the nostalgia for light’, it is particularly fitting to recognise a work that magnifies the earth while revealing how human effort can seem painfully futile in the face of capitalist irresponsibility and the immensity of its rockets.

This film shows how a single piece of shrapnel can scar the earth and permanently displace species, altering the terrain on which our sense of reality is based."
