So sorry to hear this incredibly sad news...
Thank you Ian for sharing these thoughts in what we can only assume to be an incredibly difficult time of mourning.
Henry was an awesome SAR dog, and such an inspiration to so many people... i am so glad to have been honoured to have met you both and see Henry’s laser focus at work !
Many Hugs to you and your family. Woof !
A message from Daniel Ferguson, Writer & Director of Superpower Dogs.
Years ago when I wrote the first script for Superpower Dogs, I had the idea to have a kind of grizzled, all-knowing dog as the narrator who could introduce us personally to some of the most exceptional dogs on the planet. But casting such a dog was not easy. Where do you find the James Bond or Han Solo of the canine world? It wasn’t until I met Henry - on a Skype "interview" where he seemed to be interviewing me - that I thought this might actually work. Not only was Henry laser-focused and the epitome of effortless cool, but he was also clearly in complete sync with and head-over-paws devoted to his human partner, Ian. Through scouting, production and launching the film, I have been consistently amazed by Henry and Ian.
They embody what Superpower Dogs is about: pairing the right dog with the right human to do more good together than apart. And so much good they have done. Henry has touched the lives of thousands of people far from his Whistler base. In Sweden, I watched him go from the front page of the largest newspaper in circulation to a national superstar. In cities across North America, he converted children with deep-set fears of dogs into dog lovers and dog owners. His charm was magnetic. Wherever he went, people wanted their picture with him. Airline pilots, police officers, politicians, newscasters, Chris Evans. We all wanted the Henry effect.
While my heart is broken, I am grateful that we had the privilege of immortalizing one of the world’s truly great dogs, a dog who carried my initial vision for the film and will continue to do so for years to come. Henry and Ian showed me and so many others what true superheroes are made of. And for that, I’ll always be grateful.
Go forth Henry, soar high above the clouds.
