Bird flu has been detected at a farm in the Hawkesbury district of New South Wales (NSW), near Sydney.

This comes after seven farms in Victoria were infected with avian flu during the months of May and June.

The NSW farm has been placed into quarantine and the government is now working closely with the property to manage the outbreak.

In an alert put out on June 19, the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) explained the avian flu strain detected at the property is separate to that found in Victoria.

The UK is set to lose more millionaires in 2024 than any other country except China, an annual report says.

According to the Henley Private Wealth Migration Report 2024, published on Tuesday by Henley and Partners, 9,500 more millionaires are projected to move out of the UK in 2024 than those who move in, which represents an “unprecedented net loss.”

A range of factors, including the ending of the non-dom tax regime, the deteriorating health care system, Brexit, and the lack of competitiveness in the hi-tech space, have been blamed for the exodus, with analysts suggesting “unwelcome development” foreshadowed by the general election campaign promises may push more out of the country.

RIYADH/MINA—Hundreds of visitors have died during the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca amid scorching heat, according to press reports and foreign ministries.

At least 550 people have died on haj, diplomats told French outlet Agence France Presse (AFP) on Tuesday.

Reuters was not able to immediately verify those numbers.

Stampedes, tent fires, and other accidents have caused hundreds of deaths during haj to Saudi Arabia in the past 30 years. The pilgrimage began on Friday.

Saudi state TV said temperatures rose on Monday as high as 51.8 degrees Celsius (125.2 Fahrenheit) in the shade at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

Statistics Canada says the country’s population topped 41 million people in the first quarter of this year as it grew by 0.6 percent.

The agency says the population reached 41,012,563 on April 1, a gain of 242,673 people in the first three months of the year.

Statistics Canada said the increase came as the country welcomed 121,758 immigrants in the first quarter.

Net emigration amounted to 12,613 people for the quarter.

Canada also added 131,810 non-permanent residents to the population.

Statistics Canada noted that for temporary immigration, most of the growth happened before an announcement that caps would be placed on the number of permits issued to non-permanent residents in 2024.
