It’s not a session unless there are fun and unique elements involved! To add a playful sound to the track, Tricia brought in her Otamatone, which is a Japanese electronic instrument that creates quirky, pitch-bending melodies 👌 She also brought in a handheld synth called a Stylophone, which gave us some retro, lo-fi ear candy! Bet you’re curious how it sounds 👀

To capture a relaxed and chill sounding recording, tracked a new song from the couch! To add an ambient dimension, we patched in a Canyon delay pedal in parallel with the dry signal. The result? A dreamy, synth-like texture that followed Peter’s strumming perfectly!

The greatest part of bringing a song to life? Embracing spontaneity and the unexpected. Sometimes, a song’s magic comes from the process itself. Such as recording ideas on an iPhone, adjusting chords, experimenting with structures, rewriting lyrics, exploring new sounds, and even laying down vocals from the couch! That’s exactly ’s process! We just follow the song’s lead and let it take us where it wants to go 🤟

of .boysmusic tracking some thick guitars 🎸 We ran a two-amp setup: A Marshall DSL40 tube combo for gritty distortion, and the VOX AC30 for punchy attack and clarity. Bonus trick: both amps are open-back, so we mic’d the rear of the speakers and blended the signals in for a richer, more dimensional tone 🔊

Congratulations to on the release of her EP “Characters from a Small Town”! Frankie’s infectious personality and incredible storytelling shine in each track, with catchy hooks, massive 80’s-inspired synths, big drums, guitar solos, and LOTS of vocals! Every Monday morning we’d dive into these songs, experimenting with sounds, trying every idea, and layering vocals until it all came together!
