Last night was special.
I attended Alexander Shelley’s final concert as Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra - a moment that felt both celebratory and deeply reflective.
Watching Alexander take his final bows, I couldn’t help but think back to 2009, when he made his NAC debut. Over the years that followed, I had the privilege of working alongside him on so many extraordinary projects that championed Canadian composers and new music, including landmark commissioning projects like Life Reflected, Encount3rs, Songs for Murdered Sisters, and the Strauss recording project, to SPHERE 2022, and, of course, the Carrefour Composer Residency.
Those experiences shaped my own journey and, in many ways, laid the foundation for what would eventually become Truant Artist Management.
Thank you, Alexander, for your boundless artistic curiosity, your unwavering commitment to Canadian music and living composers, and your belief in the power of new ideas. Your impact will be felt for years to come. And toi toi for what comes next!
