Only 35% of Canadians now see the United States as a reliable partner, down sharply from 83% in 2022, according to a new Pew Research Center poll.

The survey also found that only 33% of Canadians view the U.S. favourably, compared with 54% in 2024. The decline comes amid tensions over tariffs, trade disputes, and U.S. political threats toward Canada.

Pew surveyed 42,151 adults in 36 countries between February 8 and May 13, 2026. The results show falling global confidence in Washington and mostly negative views of U.S. leadership.

A Nova Scotia mother’s effort to protect her family from ticks led to an unexpected scientific success. While experimenting in her kitchen with plant-based ingredients, she developed a natural tick repellent that proved highly effective.

What began as a personal solution grew into a commercial product after testing showed strong results against ticks. The innovation has since gained attention from researchers and consumers looking for alternatives to traditional chemical repellents.

The story highlights how curiosity, persistence, and practical problem-solving can turn an everyday challenge into a breakthrough with broader public health benefits, especially as tick populations continue to expand in Canada.
