Here is the first video I worked on, from the recent Broken Promises Protest with Dr. David Suzuki, Dr. Suzanne Simard, and RPF Herb Hammond on the state of BC's forests.

Big thanks to Joe Karthein for inviting me to be involved. We have more planned, so follow Save What's Left for more..

Video Description:
"Dr. Rachel Holt knows a thing or two about BC forestry. Rachel sat on the government's Old Growth Technical Advisory Panel, and is the past vice chair of the BC Forest Practices Board. With laser sharp wit and humour, Rachel lays out exactly how the province is failing to protect our most at-risk old growth forests. This video includes Rachel's speech at both the protest and an evening speaking event where she spoke along with Dr. David Suzuki, Dr. Suzanne Simard, and RPF Herb Hammond on the state of BC's forests. When scientists are speaking at protests, you know there are grave problems.

The November 18th 2025 Broken Promises protests were orchestrated through a grassroots joint effort between Nelson-based Save What's Left Conservation Society and the Victoria-based Elders for Ancient Trees. The protests were held in 12 locations around the province and were attended by at least 1300 people, including at least 800 people in Nelson BC.

Thanks to Jonathan Robinson ‪‬ for the awesome videography and editing. Photo credits go to Jessica Sigurdson, .sigurdson.media, Mona Southron and Keith Wiley."

You are warmly invited to Habibi Groove, an afternoon into evening of feeling, heart, story, laughter, and dance. The world is heartbreaking in so many ways right now, so this is an invitation feel and move together, hold each other close, and build capacity.

We'll be fundraising for Nelson4Palestine, a local organization supporting various humanitarian causes in Palestine.

Palestinians remain resilient, but the humanitarian situation in Gaza is still dire. Since the October 11th “ceasefire,” 240+ Palestinians have been murdered and over 600+ injured by the Israeli Occupational Forces (IOF). With 81% of housing in Gaza destroyed or severely damaged, over 2 million people are still at risk as winter approaches. 94% of Gaza hospitals have been damaged or forced to suspense services. Water is scarce, polluted, and a UN commission has documented “severe health impacts consistent with exposure to toxic, and possibly radioactive substances linked to Israeli military strikes.”

A chokehold on food and aid continues, letting in only 171 trucks daily of the 600 promised in the ceasefire agreement. In Gaza IOF maintains new areas of occupation, referred to as the “yellow line,” which is 51% of the Gaza; Many can’t go home, those able to return may find only their land and other survivors. The international media is still not allowed in independently, so the real death toll (estimated to by upwards of 400,000) and harrowing stories have yet to be told.

We must continue to hold our government accountable and push for an arms embargo and to close the loophole of support for genocide and settler violence. The BDS movement, fundraising and organizing to resist Zionism and anti-Palestinian hate, is not over until there’s an end to the apartheid and occupation. Let us press forward towards a free Palestine, while decolonizing our own parts of the world, and remembering the importance of building our communities. Resting, dancing, sharing spaces and open hearted discussion is all part of the path towards a better future.

A huge thank you to the community that is collectively supporting the cause by donating their time and energy.

Local activists and / Save What's Left, held the at Nelson City Hall and the office of MLA with around a thousand people throughout yesterday afternoon. We heard from a few environmental activists, including the lead organizer Joe Karthein, who spoke about the sad state of old growth forests and our governments broken promises that continue to devastate our forests/environments. Then joe introduced someone special who wrote a forward for his recent paper on these topics.. and that special man was the legendary scientist and environmental activist, David Suzuki!

David spoke about our human journey and our ability to look ahead to see danger. He called on us to return to a place where we listen to that voice of reason, rather than continue to let unsustainable capitalism destroy our world.

Later in the evening, a sold out event was held at where David and Joe were joined by local 2 researching powerhouses (on Times 2024 list of 100 most influential people in the world) and .rachelholt . These women gave incredibly informative presentations, alongside David and Joe who inspired us to meet the moment and join the movement to defend our ancient forests.

One key call to action was to sign this petition (please do it!):

protectbcforests.ca/

They also asked us to call our MLAs / government reps regularly, because they need to hear our demands (not just those of lobby groups & corporate shills) OFTEN.

My involvement:
I was contacted the night before and asked to film both events, and I made it happen 📽️ I had the pleasure of meeting David, and thanked him for specifically calling out capitalism earlier in the day (in front of the MLA's office, but unfortunately not at the larger rally). He responded, saying essentially: that's what's keeping this all going and it's not sustainable.

He also highlighted indigenous knowledge, and called out the role of white-supremacy, colonialism and patriarchy in his speech, reminding me of bell hooks / other feminists who outline the intersection of power and the violence inherent in dominant cultures. Anyways, David was totally rad!

✨ Daffodils is blooming! ✨

We’re overjoyed to announce that our dance film *Daffodils* has been officially selected for the **Experimental, Dance & Music Film Festival Toronto** and **Lift-Off Global Sessions** 🌼

At its heart, *Daffodils* is about resilience, renewal, and the quiet courage to grow again — even after the frost.

These festival selections are a beautiful reminder of how far this project has travelled — and how art continues to connect across distance and form.

"Stage Against The Machine" Vol.1 was a successful and important achievement for our communities, both local and distant. It showed what we can do together when we work together, and how to show up for each other. Even though this is a drop in the bucket for what's needed right now in Palestine and across Turtle Island, this event leaves ripples in all of us, which will make waves one day.

This event was a testimony against the gatekeepers in this community and elsewhere, who try to sanitize politics in the arts and culture of our communities. But most importantly, it was a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine and the Autonomous Sinixt here at home.

We came together to think and feel more deeply, and push our scene in a positive direction. We committed to decolonization efforts, to think globally and act locally, while building a community of caring and courageous comrades, who are against hate, war and genocide, and refuse to be silent.

We took back our stage, and turned it against the machine!

See you next time, comrades!
