This is one of my favortie scents, as I get so many compliments when I use it in my home.
This sacred peice of wood has quite the history, did you know that Paolo santo comes from the Bursera Graveolens tree is found the Americas including Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Galápagos Islands and plentifully in mainland Ecuador.
To get the best purity the wood must be harvested in a specific way, when the tree dies usually after 50-70 years old it has to be left for 5-8 years for the oils in the heartwood to mature enough to make a potent smell.
The tree is not endangered, the confusion comes because people did not realize that even if they cut a young tree down it will not be potent until left for the 5-8 years.
There have been many scams happening when buying paolo santo for example you make be getting cedarwood that has been soaked in paolo santo essential oil, or a water mixture to try and minic the smell.
Take note and try to buy your herbs and smudging tools from businesses that will be abke to tell you where there products come from.
