I'm building a rig that I REALLY wanted a "Screamin' Jimmy" Detroit 6V53 two-stroke diesel. Of course, nobody makes one.
Long story kept VERY short: I contacted two businesses well-known for scale engines. The first one said they could help me- and then ghosted me. Despite multiple contacts, almost 2 months have gone by. The other, told me it was going to be about 500 hours of design work, and stupid expensive. I asked for a ballpark figure, and got ghosted.
Nice. Probably because I'm not a big-name builder.
Ok, time to put my head down and do stuff. Using a popular online basic CAD program, I just started doing. I had a few setbacks and whoops moments, but so far (including time to test-print parts) I'm still maybe 24 hours in.
How tf a pro is gonna need 500 hours I dunno.
Is it perfect? No. Will it end up at least loosely resembling a Detroit 6V53? Yes. Is it unique?
Yer damn straight, baby!
This is the current state. I still have a bunch of details to create, and some fine-tuning. But for a rank amateur starting from scratch, I'm pretty happy.
The only thing that wasn't completely from scratch was the blower that I grabbed off Thingiverse, resized, flipped, and made some other mods to.
When it's all said and done, it's gonna be shot in some paint I mixed up to represent GM Alpine Green.
Meanwhile, some of the parts are printed at a lower quality in the name of speed, and when I go to build the "good" one, many of the detail parts will be done in resin.
Thanks for looking.
