It might be too late for under the tree, yet another memoir from PHP is "Maxine Ross: Memories of a Dancer." Growing up during the depression in Toronto, Kay's family had a tough time making ends meet. Yet, with her own determination and amazing support of her mother, Kay was able to take dance lessons. Through the depression, the Second World War and the Korean War this very talented lady was able to entertain audiences together with her dance partner, Dennis Moore. With the environment of strong anti-semitism Kay changed her stage name to "Maxine Ross," to hide her Jewish faith. An amazing story of residence in the face of discrimination and economic hardships. Copies are available from People's History Publications, email or check our website for details.

Having PHP materials printed locally translates to a higher cost than if we sent our business out of the country or overseas. Yet, it's the commitment to supporting local business that means supporting our neighbours, instead of adding to the profits of major foreign companies. Having said that, I don't understand why the current American government can push the agenda of bringing jobs back from foreign countries while somehow reducing the cost of products. Tariffs are a tax paid by the purchaser, and buying local means paying your neighbour a living wage. Either way, the cost of goods will significantly rise due to the current "tariff war". It's Economics 101.

The latest PHP work was to bring to life the epic journey of two young men who in 1957 set out with bicycles from Montevideo, Uruguay with dreams of reaching the United States. Their report, originally written in German has been translated into English, along with photos they took along the way. Disappointment came while in Lima, Peru about 5,000 kms into their journey, when the decision was made to turn around. In doing so they crossed the Andes Mountain range twice ... on bicycle. Honoured to be part of telling their amazing journey.
