Because a wedding isn’t a checklist. It’s a day full of real, messy, unrepeatable human moments — and you can’t catch those if you’re too busy panicking about the ones on your list.

But letting go only works if the foundation is solid. So here’s what I actually built underneath the calm:

Know your gear so well you’re not thinking about it. Muscle memory, not menus.

Know how to work the light — every scenario. Harsh noon sun, dim receptions, backlit fields at golden hour. No lighting situation should scare you.

And know how to be with people. Talk to them. Laugh with them. Move through the day like you’re a guest who happens to have a camera — not a stranger barking poses.

Nail those three things and you don’t need the checklist.

You get to be present. And present is where the best photos have always lived. 🤍

There’s a specific kind of chaos that shows up right before everything changes.

The messy middle.

It looks like disorder from the outside. Piles everywhere. Half-finished projects. A calendar you’re actively tearing apart. It feels overwhelming and loud and like too much all at once.

But underneath it — for the first time — you can see the path.

Clearly. Right in front of you.

And something shifts. You get this strange surge of energy. You start throwing things out. The clutter, the junk, the commitments that were quietly draining you. The clients who don’t fit. The habits that go nowhere. The stuff you kept “just in case.”

You stop making room for everything.

You start making room only for the things that serve where you’re going.

That’s not you falling apart. That’s you clearing the runway.

The mess isn’t the problem. The mess is the sign.

Something better is about to land — and you’re finally making space for it. 🤍

I get four photos to convince you to hire me.

Four. That’s the average a client looks at before they scroll past or hit inquire.

Comment RATE and I’ll send you the free guide to make sure your pricing matches what those four photos are promising.

Now here’s the thing.

Four photos. Not your whole gallery. Not the wedding you’re most proud of. Not the session that made you cry in the edit.

So those four have to work hard. Show the emotion, not just the composition. Look like the client they want to be. Make them feel something in under two seconds.

Most photographers lead with their favorite images.

The ones who book out lead with the images their dream client sees themselves in.

Those aren’t always the same photos.

Go look at your first four right now. Would they book you?

(And if the answer is “I have no idea” — that’s exactly what I’m working on something for. More soon. 👀)

Happy Canada Day. 🍁
A myth worth busting today: you need a big city to build a real photography business.
You don’t.
I built a five-figure business from a small town in Saskatchewan — the kind of place photographers say “there’s no money here” and “everyone wants a deal.”
That’s not a location problem. It’s a positioning problem.
Price by feel and market to everyone, you attract budget clients — anywhere. Position clearly and price with confidence, the right clients find you — anywhere.
Your location is not your ceiling. Your positioning is.

“They said women belong in the kitchen…”

So I cooked. 🔥

Built a successful photography business from a small Saskatchewan town. Shot hundreds of sessions and weddings. Photographed in places I never thought I’d set foot in. Hosted my own workshops. Built the systems to sustain it.

Turns out the kitchen was bigger than they thought.

Still cooking. 📸🤍

Most photographers have never run this calculation.
Your real photography rate — the number built from your actual costs and your actual time.
Not a guess. Not borrowed from someone else’s pricing page.
Your number.
I ran mine and found a $9,000 annual gap. Across twenty years — $180,000 left on the table.
Not because I wasn’t working. Because I’d never done the math.
The calculation takes ten minutes. I built a free guide that walks you through every step.

Five or six years in I realised I hadn’t found a real job.
Because I’d already built one.
A photography business. By accident. Just by showing up and saying yes.
But I’d only built half of it.
Creative half — solid. Business half — best guesses.
I had a business degree and never applied it to the thing I was actually building.
The day I did — everything changed.

20 years ago I posted a photo from my mum’s point-and-shoot on Facebook.
No plan. No strategy. No idea what I was starting.
I just kept showing up.
100 weddings. Destination shoots. Workshops. Five figures year over year.
Not because I was the most talented photographer in the room.
Because I never stopped showing up.
Your 20 years starts now.

20 years ago I made a page and posted photos from my mum’s point-and-shoot.
I had no strategy. No brand. No idea what I was building.
I just kept showing up.
Every post. Every class. Every styled shoot. Every booking that pushed me further than the last one.
Consistency did what talent alone never could.
It built something real.
If you’re waiting until everything is perfect to start showing up — stop waiting. The photographers who win aren’t always the most talented. They’re the most consistent.
Show up today. Show up tomorrow. Show up when it feels pointless.
That’s how invisible becomes unforgettable.
