In this episode, we are highlighting BCIT Distinguished Alumnus Nigel J. Bennett, a Canadian entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist making a global impact. In 1992, he co-founded Aqua-Guard Spill Response Inc., a company dedicated to protecting water — our planet’s most vital resource.
Deeply committed to social change, Nigel has raised or donated millions to global causes, often with the support of his family and community. He led over 700 volunteers to build homes in Mexico and champions youth as Chair of the Sleep Out movement. With his son and a fellow BCIT alum, Nigel co-founded GIFTADD, an organization that reframes ADD and dyslexia as strengths.
His book, Take That Leap: Risking It All for What REALLY Matters, tells the story of his journey from a dyslexic high school graduate to global entrepreneur.
Nigel believes in giving back: “Mentoring, volunteering, and simply showing up matter—but for me, the most powerful act is volunteering alongside my family and community. It’s a true gift for our future generations.” British Columbia Institute of Technology: BCIT Library and Alumni Services
