Postpartum Doula Newborn Care

Many of my clients are existing parents but it may have been a while since their older child was a baby.

As a postpartum doula and registered early childhood educator I keep up-to-date on evidenced based information so you can feel confident you are making informed decisions for your baby care.

Within my scope of practice, I provide multiple strategies so you can decide what approach you feel comfortable with.

Each child is unique and what works for one may not work for another.

Baby Helping Hands provides physical, emotional, informational and practical support after birth.

Community Connections

Postpartum can feel isolating for some as daily sleep and feeding routines feel like they restrict you from getting out of the house. Often it is hard to find time for a shower or get dress for the day.

Recently, I was telling a client that there are many drop-in programs in Oakville giving you the opportunity to show up if it works into your routine that day. Some are free or a minimal cost.

Program Examples

• EarlyOn
• Library
• Parent groups
• Stroller walks
• La Leche League – Breastfeeding
• Premature Babies
• Parents of Multiples

Ask your Postpartum Doula because our scope of practice includes connecting you to your community.

Hospital Postpartum Support

Sometimes you don’t have the support of family in the hospital after birth. Your family may live in a different country, or your spouse may need to focus on an older child at home. Maternal nurses provide excellent support but with a postpartum doula you are receiving one on one support.
How I Support You
• Assist you getting in and out of bed.
• Provide comfort measures when dealing with discomfort from c-section incisions or tears.
• Making sure you are getting adequate meals and liquids to aid in your recovery.
• Listening ear when processing your birth experience.
• Feeding tips and demonstrations
• Discussing the hospital documents provided.
• Answering any questions related to yourself or your newborn.
• Making notes from the maternal nurses’ discharge discussions.
• Taking photographs/video of you and baby in and leaving hospital.

My job as a postpartum doula is that you feel heard, understood and cared for.
