Homestead Update ❄️💧

We managed to get our water lines thawed and had running water for a few days… but with these cold temperatures, they’ve frozen again. The good news is we can thaw the frozen section when it happens, so we’re staying on top of it as best we can.

Right now we’re almost out of water, so today we’ll be making a trip down to the lake to pump more. Not ideal, but it’s all part of off-grid living and adapting to winter as it comes.

One day at a time, learning as we go, and staying grateful we’re able to make it work. 🤍🌲

If you enjoy following our off-grid journey, please like, comment, or share — every bit of support truly helps us keep going and means more than you know 🤍

Line-out training is a foundational skill in sled dog sports. This stage focuses on teaching patience, impulse control, and consistency before any forward movement happens. When working with a team—manners on the line are essential for safety and clear communication. 🧠

You’ll notice the lead dog is tethered forward during this process. This prevents him from turning around or wandering, and it’s incredibly important because the lead dog sets the example for the rest of the team. His focus and position influence the dogs behind him. 🐕‍🦺

A calm, steady line-out sets the tone for the entire run. These dogs love this work so much that standing still is often the hardest part, which is exactly why this training matters. ⏳

There’s something so grounding about these quiet, ordinary moments.
They remind me why we chose this path.

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Tell me — do you crave simple living too, or are you a city-at-heart person?

Update from the homestead

Thankfully, both Adam and I are feeling so much better this morning. Wow… that was brutal, but we’re really hoping we’re finally at the tail end of it. Starting to feel human again feels like such a win.

With a bit of energy back, we kicked off 2026 the best way we know how — with a beautiful training run with the dogs. Watching them do what they love never fails to lift my spirits.

We’ve also been helping out our wonderful neighbours with some farm chores while they’re away, and I just want to say how much I genuinely enjoy my time there. It’s such a special place, and I’m so grateful they trust us to help out. I learn something every time I’m there, and I truly look up to them and their knowledge.

One day, I hope to have a homestead like theirs. Until then, I’m soaking it all in, learning, and feeling incredibly thankful for this life and the people around us. 💛

Below are a few photos of the beautiful animals we get to care for while they’re away — enjoy. 🐴🐐🤍

Happy New Year’s Eve 🤍

Unfortunately, Adam and I both got knocked down hard today and are pretty sick. We slept maybe a total of two hours last night. We’re thinking it might be food poisoning based on the symptoms, because it came on fast and hit us both.

We’re dealing with nausea, lightheadedness, stomach cramps, body aches, and that awful headache that comes from zero sleep. I managed to nap for about an hour and a half (which I never do), and Adam is still napping now, so we’re really hoping rest helps us turn a corner.

We did sneak out for a hot tub dip and wow… that felt incredible. Then Straight back inside after to nap it off. I’m feeling a bit better since, but still far from great.

Living off-grid is very physically demanding, and today we’ve got absolutely nothing left in the tank — which honestly makes this even harder. Not quite how we pictured spending our first New Year’s out here.

Here’s hoping we bounce back quickly and start the new year on our feet. 🤞✨
