Happy 76th birthday to US singer, songwriter and guitarist Bruce Springsteen, born 23 Sept 1949. Nicknamed 'The Boss', he won an Academy Award in 1994 for his song 'Streets of Philadelphia', which appeared on the soundtrack to the film Philadelphia. His most successful studio albums, Born in the U.S.A. and Born To Run showcase a talent for finding grandeur in the struggles of daily American life; he has sold more than 71 million albums in the United States and more than 140 million worldwide. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards.

22 Sept 1973, The Rolling Stones scored their eighth UK No.1 album when Goats Head Soup started a two-week run at the top of the charts. Like its predecessor Exile on Main St., the band composed and recorded much of it outside of the United Kingdom due to their status as tax exiles — specifically, in Jamaica and the United States. The album contains 10 tracks, including the lead single 'Angie', which went to No.1 as a single in the US and the top five in the UK.

21 Sept 1977, Meat Loaf released his debut studio album Bat Out Of Hell. His first collaboration with composer Jim Steinman and producer Todd Rundgren, it is one of the best-selling albums of all time, having sold over 43 million copies worldwide (and still sells over 200,000 copies per year). The first single released from the album 'You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth' failed to chart when first released.

Bat Out Of Hell is an album that’s excessive in every way; big, brash & loud - like the singer, but it became one of the best-selling albums of all time.
