Our September-October issue is out! Our cover story explores the rise of AI and its use for sermon prep, Bible study and devotionals. Writer She Believed: A Book by Taylor Scott-Reimer’s “What’s shaping your faith,” helps us seek formation and understanding instead of fear around AI and its place in our relational faith journey. We also feature senior editor Bill Fledderus’ conversation with Mark Peterkins, longtime executive director of One Way Ministries, a ministry dedicated to building biblical unity in the city of Ottawa. Their conversation is currently streaming and on video as part of the Faith Today podcast, episode 259. Next as part of this issue’s special leadership focus, Santosh Ninan shares on what support ministry for pastors looks like in our Canadian context for his feature article, “Walking with pastors from hurt to hope.” We also include a list of organizations and ministries who come alongside ministry leaders to help with their healing. Jon Fuller and Adam Kline’s article “When the stranger rebuilds your house” highlights how newcomers are one of the answers to Canada’s prayer for revival, chronicling the service of new Canadians across multiple provinces. Darren Roorda’s feature article “Why some good Christian leaders are compelled to leave their posts” focuses on the need for a shift in leadership paradigms among many non-profit and ministry organizations. Roorda argues “the age of isolating leaders from their boards and minimizing the board’s role to policy generation and performance scrutiny must change.” Leadership catalyst Cathie Ostapchuk’s “When leadership outpaces formation” adds thoughtful response to “being versus doing” in Christian leadership. Ostapchuk encourages readers to consider the opportunity to “learn again how to form leaders whose lives remain rooted in God.”
We round out this issue with our Fall education ad supplement, highlighting Christian post-secondary options across Canada. Our Church in Community column by Sammy Kyereme explores how Toronto’s Willowdale Baptist Church serves as a city warming centre in the winter months.
