Our words have power… but not in the way that you may think.
Western Church Culture has sold this mindset to many Christians that: “If I say it, it will happen.” We’ve turned ordinary, intentional, faithful speech into something we now overspiritualize. Many of churches and even ministers, have made entire ministries surrounding “the power of the tongue.” Where they will promise you cars, provision, and almost a wishful thinking that is self-exalting and not encouraging to the true well-being of the body of Christ. These very Proverbs that were written to bring wisdom to everyday dialogue, then became treated as an indoctrinal spiritual agenda — which is something I like to call “manifestation in the name of Jesus.” It’s language that never frees, instead it bounds — at the expense of our own words. When we believe in the ‘power of the tongue’ outside of the exegesisical definition scripture gives… while with good intentions; it’s a belief system that plants one certain thing — crippling fear. Without knowing it, we’ve conditioned the Church to be afraid of the irrational by reaching deeply into words. By no means is the exposure of this message encouraging us to be less mindful of our speech. If anything, we should be convicted just of that. Mindfulness in our words; not from anxiety, but from wisdom. This is what makes the body anxious instead of resilient. When we teach the body to be afraid of words apart from nuance, figurative speech — we’re preaching a false doctrine that is not consistent with reality. Let us read the scriptures at face value of what God actually reveals to us; not our own versions that only produce hyper-vigilance apart from love
