GAPC Entertainment is very pleased to have the opportunity to attend the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers being held this year in Rio de Janeiro.

As in the past, Hoda Elatawi has been asked to moderate some of the “Close Encounters of the Funding Kind” panels with a variety of international broadcasters. Significant discussion around the state of the industry with expert panels and of course a lot of discussion regarding AI. This year however the AI discussion has grown and the examples of incredible historical and scientific programs are now being shown.

"Sisters Matsumoto" sheds light on the after-effects of Japanese American internment camps during World War II. The play is set in 1945, and tells the story of three sisters who return to Stockton, California after spending two years in a U.S. concentration camp in Arkansas - an experience that echoes those of the Japanese Canadian community in the 1940s.

Racism, loss and the enduring strength of family. These are significant themes that resonate with all of us today. We uphold and explore these ideas in the work we do in the arts - as storytellers and documentarians - to evoke empathy and reflect on the human condition.

"Sisters Matsumoto" - coming to The Gladstone Theatre (Ottawa). Presented by Marginally Fit Productions.
There will be a talk-back after the December 18 performance.

🤲 Forgiveness Heals

The Qur’an says: “Whoever is patient and forgives — indeed, that is of the matters requiring determination.” (42:43)

Forgiving doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you free.

Real strength is letting go.

Is the new proposed Quebec secularism bill really about protecting rights and freedoms or taking them away? Why should citizens be told what they can wear or do, and will the erosion of these freedoms lead to something even more Orwellian? Is creating a law that bans someone praying at lunch or at the hospital necessary? In my latest film SO YOU WANT TO ME A MUSLIM, we explore how diverse folks in the Muslim community really are, how different their lived experiences are, and how that reflects the beautiful diversity we see in our country. This is what makes up our identity as Canadians…please don’t try to take that away—haven’t we learned anything from history?

Gratitude Transforms Life

The Qur’an says: “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor].” (14:7)

Gratitude shifts everything.
It turns little into enough, and enough into more.

The more you thank, the more you receive.
