Did you know that the City of Ottawa offers a lifejacket loaner program at Britannia, Mooney's Bay, Petrie Island, and Westboro beaches?
Beach-goers can now pick up a lifejacket in child, youth, and adult sizes during supervised beach time. Lifeguards are on duty from noon to 7 p.m.
Now through July 26 is the Lifesaving Society’s National Drowning Prevention Week.
Here are few things to remember when around the water:
• Keep children within arm’s reach when in the water
• Wear a personal Floatation Device.
• Always supervise kids at private pools and secure with self-latching gates and lock when not in use.
• Watch your child not your phone
• Swim with a buddy
• Always swim when lifeguards are on duty and within designated swimming areas.
• Learn to swim – The City of Ottawa offers swimming lessons for all ages and abilities.
Stay safe out there!

Planning to visit the beach? Always swim during supervised hours when lifeguards are on duty. If you're near water, keep young children within arm’s reach at all times — it only takes a few seconds for a fun day to turn into a serious emergency.
