Immigration Levels Plan: Canada to target 485,000 permanent residents in 2024
Canada has unveiled its Immigration Levels Plan for 2024-2026, setting its sights on welcoming 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024 and increasing to 500,000 in 2025 and 2026. The government aims to maintain economic growth and address labor shortages, particularly in key sectors like healthcare, construction, and technology. Approximately 60% of new arrivals will be through economic pathways such as Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program. The plan also emphasizes family reunification and the protection of refugees and vulnerable populations. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) emphasized that while immigration targets remain steady, efforts will focus on ensuring newcomers can successfully integrate into communities by improving housing, infrastructure, and support services. This balanced approach highlights Canada's long-term vision of leveraging immigration to build a stronger and more resilient society.
