Our Story

THEPURPLEGAR started in 2010 when Owner/Operator Christopher Gardiner decided to purchase a professional camera to record his own music video. In order to learn the more advanced aspects of recording video, he turned to filming live shows of his friends and family.

After discovering the challenges of recording live events and adding equipment to ensure a professional outcome, Chris started getting asked to film live shows for payment. He discovered a love for film and the reaction that bands had to seeing themselves as they had always imagined...as stars.

Chris had a YouTube channel called THEPURPLEGAR. This name is a combination of “The Purple Frogs”, the name that his friends had given themselves and “Gar”, his nickname among those friends.

In 2012, Chris was approached to film a local charity musical event called MS Metal Therapy.

In order to film the show, Chris had to increase the scale of his operation and employ multiple technicians. With the support of his family and a potential layoff from his day job, Chris decided to invest in his new found passion to create THEPURPLEGAR Live Video Services. The MS Metal therapy show would be the first major portfolio piece in a long line of live shows to follow. Gear from his home studio and a great deal of professional equipment was added to the operation’s assets in order to accomplish a professionally shot and edited live production headlined by the legendary metal band Exciter. The final product would be an important showcase for the new high-end capability of what would soon become a registered business in the province of Ontario, Canada. Content from this show is still available for viewing and continually gaining views on YouTube.

Today, THEPURLEGAR Live Video Services is outfitted to stages of any size.

Shows can be filmed outdoors, rain or shine. Complete ICS (TM) event management can be applied to filming of major festivals. THEPURPLEGAR’s professional cameras can be directed to projector screens or live streams.

For all live events, the company prides itself on having superior audio, setting itself apart from other companies in the area.

In 2018, Chris had his first experience directing and editing an MTV-style music video for the Ottawa band Animal Confession. The video for “Ritual” from their album Age of Today can be found on this page as a link to their YouTube channel. The band was so pleased with the results that they have asked us to film their next video. This video for “Age of Today”, the title song for the album features Wallis Giunta, the world-renowned opera singer and is set for release in October 2018.

The company continues to film live events, including concerts, corporate events and now, music videos. We also rent gear to and partner with other video production companies in the area.
