The Persecution of Vice President Sara Duterte: A Disturbing Display of Power Abuse

In a troubling turn of events, the Philippine Congress has embarked on a protracted and seemingly orchestrated campaign to vilify Vice President Sara Duterte. The recent impeachment proceedings and the relentless investigation into the alleged misuse of confidential funds have exposed a dark and underhanded political agenda, spearheaded by House Speaker Martin Romualdez and his allies.
What stands out is the glaring double standard in the scrutiny applied to Vice President Duterte's tenure. The funds in question, reportedly originating from President Bongbong Marcos himself, have been the focal point of an aggressive investigation. Yet, the same level of scrutiny appears conspicuously absent when it comes to President Marcos and his allies. This selective targeting reeks of political bias and raises serious questions about the integrity of the entire process.

Furthermore, the speed at which the House of Representatives moved to impeach Vice President Duterte is alarming. The rapid approval of the Articles of Impeachment has led many to believe that the process was compromised, sacrificing thoroughness and fairness for expedience. This haste underscores a concerted effort to undermine her political influence and paint her as an untrustworthy official.

The impeachment complaint, laden with accusations of plotting to assassinate the president and large-scale corruption, seems more like a calculated move to discredit Vice President Duterte rather than a genuine quest for justice. Her outspoken criticism of President Marcos and his administration has undoubtedly made her a target for political retribution.

This episode serves as a stark reminder of the perils of unchecked political power. The actions of Speaker Romualdez and his cabal have deepened the political rift in the country, leading to further instability. It is imperative that the Filipino people see through this charade and recognize it for what it is—a disturbing display of power abuse aimed at silencing a prominent and influential voice.

As this drama unfolds, one can only hope that the Senate trial will offer a fairer and more balanced evaluation of the accusations against Vice President Duterte. The stakes are high, not just for her political career, but for the very principles of justice and democracy in the Philippines.
