On today's episode I recount my Bluesfest 2025: tales of physical assault during Pixies, broken hearts, friends of new and old, sweltering heat, and emotional hardcore punk featuring TURNSTILE. A July that will be remembered fondly...

Recently, I had the opportunity to make a radio show for BE KIND RADIO. πŸ“»πŸ’– Thanks so much to David Langille for the opportunity.

I'm reposting this poster as it was brought to my attention that I posted the wrong link, the correct link is BEKINDRADIO(dot)COM.

I'm also late posting (the first of two shows aired last Sunday) due to personal situations, and honestly, pure burn out. I sincerely apologize for that one. Ah well.

There are lots of other awesome shows made by a ton of different DJs!

I'll also upload these shows at special editions of Notes from Underground in the future, for those who missed them! (I know I did...). They feature ALL original Ottawa (and NCR-based) artists. Four hours of music. Something for everyone, provided you are a weird little freak like myself.

DON'T FORGET TO BE KIND πŸ’–

Turnstile revolves into Ottawa July 12th for Bluesfest... and yours truly will be there covering the night for a SPECIAL BLUESFEST EDITION of the show.

Turnstile has been on my radar for years now. Blending hard-hitting hardcore punk riffs with anthemic, even melodic, vocals, they have also recently veered into shoegaze and pop territory. Experimental, hardcore, emotionally resonant and catchy: all the things Notes from Underground lives for.

A special edition of Notes will air July 22nd at 5PM on 93.1 CKCU FM in Ottawa. And if you miss it, you can stream it on CKCUFM(.)com.

See you in the mosh pit 🫑

After last week's sad songs edition, I check out new releases from The Callous Daoboys, Backxwash, Propagandhi, Dial Up, PUP, Mother Mother, Shark Bite Spite, and Milk Knife. Where I ask the question: what is a Milk Knife? Is it a knife that cuts milk? A knife made out of milk? Or am I asking questions I don't want to know the answer to?

"The Empower Arts Summit is a disabled, d/Deaf, and neurodivergent-led gathering of musicians, researchers, arts organizations, and industry that will showcase the creativity, innovation, and lived experiences of disabled, d/Deaf, and neurodivergent musicians and other performing artists. The summit will feature talks, workshops, performances, and displays in an accessible and inclusive gathering to share diverse perspectives. We seek to increase awareness and understanding of the lived experiences of working and studying artists, and we want to highlight and celebrate the creative contributions of artists from the disability, d/Deaf and neurodivergent communities. We also seek to examine the barriers to participation, and we invite perspectives that offer strategies for a more accessible arts environment. The summit will promote inclusive practices and consider intersecting identities and perspectives in arts programming. The summit will conclude with a public evening concert.

The Empower Arts Summit is being held at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre on May 26th. Daytime presentations start at 9:00 AM, and end at 5:00 PM. The evening concert starts at 7:00 PM, and ends at 9:00 PM. More information & a registration link can be found by visiting empowerarts.ca"
