Canada makes femicide first-degree murder as all three major Criminal Code reforms become law

One of the most consequential updates to Canada’s Criminal Code in generations to better protect victims and survivors is now law

Stop intimate partner violence and femicide

Strengthen victims’ rights and give clear guidance on court delays

June 19, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – Government of Canada

“Victims and survivors called for stronger protections from intimate partner violence and gender-based violence. Those protections are now law,” said the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

I found this photo of myself, and it hurt so badly to look at that face and remember who I use to be before all the years of horrific abuse and trauma caused me to have debilitating pain, changing my life drastically, from non-stop energy, to where I can hardly move as I am always in constant pain. I miss this version of me...I miss her so much! It breaks my heart, and especially now where I am finally safe, and could actually enjoy my life with that fun loving energy...where instead, I have to use that small amount of energy I have left just to get through my pain filled days. The sadness is so deep.

I woke up with this song in my head, so I chose to use it for this post... the energy of the music was exactly what that Connie enjoyed, that was her...the lyrics are of me now missing her so much...missing that awesome energy!!!

Some of the good things that came out of that time ...my Fine Arts Diploma (and certificate[s]), the wonderful friends I made at St. Lawrence College (and being at the best school I could have ever hoped for), my Kitties, and of course the artwork I made (and was able to save when I got out of that situation I was trapped in).

This drum (and the yellow one) still sit in my kitchen...I was only able to save these 2 of my set of 6, but it's better than nothing, and I get to play them whenever I want (and I don't have to worry about getting s**t on for playing them.) My drums were an homage to the Indigenous people I grew up with and to the amazing artwork from Norval Morrisseau that we were surrounded by at the Odawa Native Friendship Centre. The drums had a huge impact on me as we volunteered at numerous Powwows and Socials throughout my early years ... and the assignment was exactly that ... music, drumming, artwork, and Indigenous beliefs shaped this part of my world ... and I felt this was the best way to show my gratitude and love for what I got to experience, which were some of the only few wonderful experiences I had during my youth ... I am still so grateful for those times and teachings.
