Watch Edgerunners 2 like a student, not a fan. ⚑️

10 episodes, all in Japanese, all on Netflix. The 4-step method that turns them into real Japanese practice:

1️⃣ Japanese audio + Japanese subs. No English. You won't catch everything β€” that's the point.
2️⃣ Shadow 3 lines per episode β€” pause, repeat out loud, match the actor's rhythm. (Try the trailer lines in the slides.)
3️⃣ Mine 5 words per episode. Slang counts. It's Night City. Ten episodes = fifty words.
4️⃣ After episode 10, rewatch episode 1 and notice what changed. That's your progress.

Thirty lines your mouth knows how to say. Fifty words in your deck. One anime.

✈️ MYTH: You have to move abroad to learn a language.

Here's my classroom: a couch in Ottawa and a cartoon about superheroes. 🐞

I'm learning Spanish from Miraculous Ladybug β€” ten minutes at a time, ears only, each segment twice through. No textbook. No plane ticket. No "talent for languages" (whatever that is).

Last week I earned this sentence:
Β«No se reconocieron.Β»
"They didn't recognize each other."

Not from a conjugation table β€” from watching Ladybug and Cat Noir forget their own names. Twice. The fancy word for it is comprehensible input. The honest word is reps.

Tu turno πŸ‘‡ What's one myth about learning languages you stopped believing?

The critics are split on Edgerunners 2 β€” so I watched it the way I learn, and I'm defending it. ⚑️

Polygon calls it "a true masterpiece." IGN: "a spectacular season of television." Ready Steady Cut calls it "scattershot and uninvolving," and Kotaku says season 1's highs never quite return.

They're reviewing the story. I'm training my ears.

I built a language app. Now I'm learning with it β€” and here's what the pans miss: season 2 swaps one hero for four leads. Four voices, four registers, four speeds of Japanese. And when the plot wanders, you can't predict the next line β€” your ears have to work.

My method: πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Japanese audio + Japanese subs. πŸŽ™οΈ Shadow 3 lines per episode. πŸ“ Mine 5 words per episode.

Thirty lines. Fifty words. One divisive season.

Five posts ago I told you I'm learning Spanish from a kids' cartoon. πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Since then: a method (20/20/20), a Mistake Bank, and this week β€” 7 days, 3 languages, no subtitles, no safety nets. Spanish retold from memory. French argued from memory. Japanese absorbed, one catch at a time. I built CineFluency on one belief: real shows teach better than textbooks. Then I proved it on myself. My most repeated mistake in Spanish. πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ I kept saying 'ellos' β€” ellos viajan, ellos quieren β€” like the verb needed an introduction. It doesn't. Viajan already means THEY travel. Drop the pronoun, keep the meaning. This one took three filings in my Mistake Bank before it stuck. That's the whole method: real shows, real mistakes, one line, one drill. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is out TODAY 🎬

Here's how to turn 10 episodes into Japanese practice:

Step 1 β€” Japanese audio, Japanese subtitles. No English. You won't catch everything β€” that's the point.

Step 2 β€” Shadow 3 lines per episode. Pause on a line you love, repeat it out loud, match the rhythm. 10 episodes = 30 lines your mouth knows how to say.

Step 3 β€” Mine 5 words per episode into flashcards. Street slang counts. It's Night City.

"May the Force be with you" β€” the most useful English subjunctive you will ever hear, and it comes from Star Wars.

In Star Wars (1977), this English line shows the subjunctive mood in action: it means "I wish you luck," and the verb stays "be" instead of "is" β€” wishes, demands, and suggestions all take the base verb.

One more from the same film: "Do or do not. There is no try." β€” the parallel imperative from Yoda, with no "to" after "do."

I built a language app. Now I am learning with it.

Real mistake, week 1 of my Spanish. πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ I kept saying 'me huele' when something hurt. 'Me huele la cabeza.' My head… smells? One-line fix: duele hurts, huele smells. The vowel is the meaning. I file every mistake like this β€” one line, one 2-minute drill β€” in what I call a Mistake Bank. It's how I turn embarrassment into vocabulary. Stop pausing your anime to look up words β€” try the 3-hear rule instead.

When I'm learning Japanese from anime, I don't look up a word the first time I hear it. I wait until I've heard it three times.

First hearing: let it pass. Second: guess from the scene. Third: look it up β€” and now the scene has already taught you the context, so the meaning actually sticks.

Keep a tally of your "heard it twice" words. That's your next vocab list, built by your ears.

Save this for your next episode.
Share it with someone learning Japanese.
