Last year, we were honoured to be invited to celebrate Guatemala’s 203rd Independence anniversary at the Embajada de Guatemala en Canadá. I had the chance to meet so many beautiful people, and as someone adopted from Guatemala, the experience was deeply emotional for me. Surrounded by the Guatemalan community in Ottawa, I felt a powerful sense of belonging — sharing stories, connections, and the familiar flavours of traditional dishes that carried pieces of home.

Today, as we celebrate 204 years of Guatemala’s Independence, I hold those memories close to my heart. They remind me that even far from where my story began, the spirit of Guatemala lives within me — in its people, its traditions, and the love of a community that makes me feel at home.
