🇳🇬🇺🇸 FROM NIGERIA TO U.S. ARMY LIEUTENANT COLONEL.

Meet Lieutenant Colonel Ike Njiaju a Nigerian, who has built an impressive career in the United States Army through years of dedication, discipline and hard work.

LTC Njiaju is a Board-Certified Pediatric and Infectious Diseases Pharmacist. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and joined the U.S. Army in 2013.

Over the years, he has served in various leadership and professional roles, including Platoon Leader, Medical Company Commander and Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He also completed the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

He has now been promoted from Major to Lieutenant Colonel, marking another significant milestone in his military career.

From Nigeria, to the leadership ranks of the U.S. Army, his journey is a remarkable example of dedication and professional excellence.

PLANNING TO STUDY IN THE UK? HERE’S HOW MUCH M0NEY YOU MAY NEED TO SHOW

International students applying for a UK Student visa may need to demonstrate that they have enough m0ney to cover their living expenses while studying.

Under the current requirements, students may need to show:

• £1,529 per month for courses in London up to £13,761 for 9 months.

• £1,171 per month for courses outside London up to £10,539 for 9 months.

This is in addition to the required funds for tuition fees, where applicable.

For applicants who need to provide financial evidence, the required funds generally need to have been held for 28 consecutive days, with the relevant 28-day period ending within 31 days of the visa application.

US-CANADA TRADE DISPUTE ESCALATES: NEW IMPORT BANS TAKE EFFECT SEPTEMBER 29

The trade dispute between the United States and Canada is heating up again.

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced new measures that will ban certain Canadian alcoholic beverages, dairy products and motorcycles from entering the United States, starting September 29, 2026.

The announcement came shortly after Canada introduced new retaliatory tariffs on about $20 billion worth of U.S. goods, with tariffs ranging from 15% to 50% on selected products.

This latest move takes the dispute beyond tariffs and into outright import restrictions on some products.

With Canada and the U.S. being such closely connected trading partners, many people are now asking, who will feel the economic impact more, Canada or the United States?

And perhaps the bigger question is, should both countries continue responding with tariffs and restrictions, or is it time to return to the negotiating table?

CAMEROONIAN-BORN NURSE SENTENCED TO 4 YEARS IN UK PATIENT-CARE CASE

A 54-year-old mental health nurse originally from Cameroon has been sentenced to four years in prison in the UK following the passing of a 22-year-old patient at a psychiatric intensive care unit in Wirral.

According to the court, Laurence Tchapong was responsible for carrying out observations on Amy Barber at five-minute intervals. Prosecutors said the required checks were not carried out for about 25 minutes before Amy was found unresponsive and later passed away in hospital.

The case also involved concerns about patient observation records. The court heard that records indicated checks had been completed, while CCTV evidence presented during the case showed otherwise.

Tchapong was c0nv!cted of wilful negl€ct and received a four-year pr!son sentence.

Lessons healthcare workers can learn

▪️ Take patient observations seriously, required checks are an important part of keeping vulner@ble patients safe.

▪️ Document accurately: patient records should reflect exactly what was done. Never record an observation or intervention that was not completed.

▪️ Follow care plans and workplace procedures: Observation schedules and other clinical instructions are there for patient safety.

▪️ Speak up when something goes wrong: If a required check is missed or there is a concern about a patient's condition, report it promptly and follow the appropriate escalation process.

▪️ Patient safety comes first: No matter how busy a healthcare environment becomes, the wellbeing of the patient must remain a priority.
