I only got the last of the tundra swans leaving Grand Bend, Ontario yesterday, and then only with my phone. It was still a thrill since it was my first time seeing them.

Thousands of them stop there on their way to the arctic each spring, but this time they were mostly there mid-week.

I'll share a YouTube video of last year's migration shot by Garfield's Adventures shortly.

For our newer followers, I thought I might tell you a bit about this page. My late wife, Darlene, wanted to make short, educational videos that would be easy for kids like our youngest to read. He's legally blind, so she made the graphics large and high contrast.

This video isn't actually one of the "Vids for Kids" because it doesn't have the graphics. It's a look at a local natural area, though, so it doesn't seem too out of place.

Thanks for watching our videos. I was amazed to find that one of them on our YouTube channel had 36k views! I think it's because of Darlene's commitment to make them great. For our son, and for everyone.

Razorbills are striking seabirds found along the cold coasts of the North Atlantic.

The thin white line running from the beak to the eye is a facial marking used for recognition between birds, especially during the breeding season when they gather in large cliff colonies.

Their thick beak, crossed by sharp white stripes, helps them grip slippery fish while diving underwater.

✨ Fun Fact: Razorbills hunt by “flying” underwater with their wings and can dive more than 100 meters deep.
