International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame- ikthof Throughout the 6th anniversary, the Hall of Fame will conduct special events celebrating its storied past while promoting the organization’s exciting future.

In 2008, the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame celebrates its sixth year of excellence in honoring the legends and preserving the history of knife throwing. Since opening in 2003, the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame has grown in both size and stature. Expansion of the building began in 2006, and renovations, including a major exhibit gallery, were completed in 2008. Together, the

se improvements have transformed the original 400 square foot Hall of Fame into an exciting 900 square foot internationally recognized institution. Today, the Hall of Fame stands as a shining tribute to the men and women who have made professional knife throwing one of America’s most upcoming and ever increasing popular sport. The International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame is located in Austin, Texas, at 10203 Old Manchaca Road, in the southwest corner of the city just off Interstate Highway 35, 4 miles west on Slaughter Lane. Why Austin for the Hall of Fame Site? The International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame is located in Austin, Texas for three primary reasons:

1. The IKTHOF was founded in Austin in September 2003.

2. Austin, Texas, dubbed the “Knife Throwing Capitol of the World” in December of 2002 by throwers attending one of the largest conventional throws ever held in the U.S. up to that date. Called the Central Texas Knife and Hawk Championship at the South Austin Karate Studio which houses the IKTHOF.
3. Upon establishing a board of 20 professional knife throwers, Mike “Alamo” Bainton with their guidance, established rules for professional knife and tomahawk throwing, which is the standard by which knife throwing the world over is judged. Publications such as Guinness Book of World Records, newspapers and magazines throughout the U.S. call upon the IKTHOF and it’s Founder for validation and accuracy of knife and tomahawk accomplishments in the world of family recreational and competition knife throwing. The International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame provides a positive influence and professional service to its members. Founder and executive director, Dr. Michael J. Bainton, Ph.D., has based the IKTHOF headquarters in the central U.S., in Austin, Texas. The association is dedicated to increasing the communication, education and recognition of all Knife throwers. The IKTHOF has an open membership policy. It is designed to service the varied needs and interests of members from all Knife Throwing styles. The IKTHOF membership registration will be maintained at the headquarters in Austin, Texas. One of the IKTHOF’s current mandates is to establish standards for knife throwing by which knife throwers can be ranked in documented competitions recognized by professional throwers. IKTHOF has a knife and tomahawk throwing training center with 11 professional targets and a state of the art Motor Skills Laboratory with trained Motor Skills professionals to train in all aspects of knife and tomahawk throwing. Impalement artists, Mountain Man Throwers, Conventional competitive throwers as well as families looking for a safe and inexpensive fun sport throughout the world have sought out the training methods, facilities and Instructors whose resumes attest to the fact that they are the world’s most knowledgeable in the history of knife throwing. The Guinness book of records, many magazine articles as well as newspapers throughout the U.S. recognizes Mike “ Alamo “ Bainton as the most prolific Knife and Hawk thrower in the history of the sport, winning more documented world titles and first place wins in major competitions with 20 or more world class throwers than anyone in the history of knife throwing. Hall of Fame Inductee Cliff “AWOL” Hill, the facility’s onsite and remote Knife and Tomahawk instructor has a reputation as one of the world’s best competitive throwers in Conventional, Frontiersman and Mountain Man competitions. Convention attendees seeking team building skills and group fun activities as well as companies looking for an unusual activity to entertain their employees and their guests have sought out our instructors for onsite training at their facility or here at the World’s largest knife and hawk training facility at the IKTHOF headquarters in Austin Texas. We would be pleased to add you to the membership as a Knife thrower. Knife throwing instruction, Tomahawk throwing instruction by the best throwers in the world continues to flourish and expand its membership and instructors. International Knife Throwers Hall Of Fame Changes Hands.
In 2005 I was at the World Championships in Vegas. Rick Lemberg was running the throw as he did every tear since 1996 way before my time. I started in 2002 by attending some throws and in 2003 I had the idea to start the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame to honor those from the past and present who were Knife throwers in all Categories. Show throwers who had an act on stage and Competitive throwers those that attended throws throughout the country competing in 6 distance throws . We had 8 or 9 nominated by other throwers who we inducted starting in 2003. We did that once a year at my studio in Austin at my throw. I loved the sport and was able to attend most of the throws throughout the US and Europe. At the World Championships in 2005 Rick " The Rocket : Lemberg asked me if I would be interested in running the World Championships every year until his work load at his business eased up. I was happy to do so and we had World Championships until 2024. We documented each of the 10 or so Types of throws and had winners and trophies for each for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. You can find those scores and the winners of each event on the IKTHOF page.I ran all those throws each year with plenty of help from throwers from all over the World.. I am now 82 years old retired from throwing and Rick The Rocket and I were discussing what are we going to do with the IKTHOF now that I am too old to throw competively never mind run and World Championships. SO I have now made a deal with Rick the Rocket Lemberg to again take back over the World Championships and to take over the IKTHOF going forward as he is no longer too busy to run the throws as he sees fit. This has been done with all the Appropriate Paperwork to legally own the name IKTHOF. I want to especially Thank Ward Wright who ran some of the throws in Canada but between Covid and his workload he can no longer spare the time to run the throws. Rick the Rocket now owns the company of The International Knife Throwers Hall Of Fame as of today August 29th 2025. I wish The Rocket all the success in the world in his new endeavor. He has many ideas that he will introduce to Professional Competitive Knife and Hawk throwing over the coming years I encourage any thrower to compete in any of Ricks throws that he dreams up. After all he started all of this in 1996. Thanks for all the wonderful years of competative throwing I have enjoyed but mainly Thank You to all the wonderful people I have met while competing and God bless those who have passed on whom I will never forget. And also I was put into the Guinness Book of Records in 2008 for most world championship events won. It's time for someone to get someone in the Guinness Book of Records this year if not next to keep me company.

The World’s at Wards 2023

As much as I love road trips and visiting America, it’s always nice to get away while still staying in your own ‘backyard.’
All roads lead to the Frontier Arts Club, situated in Pembroke Ontario, Canada, which has been host to many knife throwing events, and is the current mainstay for IKTHOF’s World Championship. The uniqueness of this place never ceases to amaze me how each year there is something new, be it a new structure echoing the wild west theme or an additional event that evolved an extra challenge. New faces and old friends from far and wide celebrate for three days of chucking steel, cracking whips, and shooting arrows while breaking bread over a massive feast.

For me, this event and location is always the home Mecca, and in order to give this experience its deserved showcase, more photos and descriptions will be added to the album, stay tuned!

IKTHOF has revised their rules for the amateur knife categories. Please visit our website www.ikthof.org to review them before this upcoming season. Generally speaking, 6 meters has replaced the second 5 meter throw. This decision brings throwers going into the pro category closer to throwing all the pro distances.
